Is it almost a solid line? This may be an application problem. Are you printing text?

I have seen this in two flavors:

1) If there are switch settings for this printer you want to make sure that the printer is set for CR/LF ( Carrier Return/Line Feed). This tells the printer to Return the printhead to the start of the line and the LF command tells the printer to step up the page.

2) If you are connected serially, the parity bit may be set incorrectly. Depending on the parity, the bit could printer if set for even parity but the sending PC is set to EVEN parity can cause a LF command to get ignored and the symptom is the lines print on top of the first line.

How to turn off test print on a HP DJ 6122.

Yes.Tell it to print a dot short word and when it starts printing unplug the power cord so it stops with the printhead somewhere to the left. Then do your cart change. It won' t know you did anything.
The 6122 will print from the HP 920, 930, 932, 940 & 950 drivers also - (which are included with your Windows XP and Vista systems). If you chose the 970 driver it will want a second sheet of paper to print a test page, which you can ignore and it will stop trying. All drivers seem to be the same print quality in my systems. I do not use the 970 or 6122 driver at all so I don't have an ink level monitor or any possible related potential glitch. I wet and slap stubborn old ink cartridges to un-stick dry jets. sometimes I use a small clear silicone tube to suck a bit of ink to get them started as the jet holes need priming sometimes if they are old.

HP 6122 nothing prints other than one or two lines of nonsense and it goes on and on one line per page

This might be a problem with the connection or corrupted file, try to cancel the print job and try again. -if your using USB connection try to unplug and replug the cable from the PC and the printer side.

My printer will select a piece of paper and sounds like it will begin printing, but it doesn't print--just feeds paper through. Prior to this printer was working well--no changes were made---no software...

I downloaded the driver for hp deskjet 990c and reinstalled my printer manually. It now prints just fine--it just thinks it's a 990c as opposed to the 6122 that it really is.

6122 Printer says it is out of paper and will not print test page

Hi Ken,
The user manual says this:

1. Verify the following:
There is sufficient paper in the paper tray (at least ten sheets).
The paper tray is not overly full.
The paper stack is touching the back of the paper tray.
2. Slide the paper guides so they fit firmly against the edges of the paper.
3. Press the Resume button to continue printing.

Sometimes my printer won't print if it has too little or too much paper in the slot. It's a relatively common sensor problem.
Try that.

If all else fails, here's a link to the user manual in pdf form:

Good luck
