Frozen hard drive

Hi, i wonder if you can help, the hard drive has frozen on the above box, it won't record, play or anything and when you go on the library and try and delete the frozen programme it won't delete and then non of the functions work so you have to turn off at the mains to re-start the functions but the hard drive is still frozen. any ideas. thanks, regards andy.

Our Thomson digital terrestrial recorder (DV3) does exactly the same thing. I spend half my time pulling the plug out to un-freeze the thing. It will work happily and then I try to delete a random programme and it just freezes and you can't do anything but pull the power out. Whichever programme it froze on seems to be corrupt in some way so you can't watch it or delete it, it just sits there. Is there a way of resetting the whole system and starting from scratch because surely eventually my whole machine will become full of unwatchable programmes...!

Yes I too have frozen programmes. The machine has now taken a turn for the worse and will not even turn on. An orange light flashes on the front and judging my the vibrations coming from the machine, I suspect that the hard drive is active. Pulling the plug and restarting does not help.

If you have a Thomson DT16300, here's a handy fix that address freeze ups, lack of reception and problems on your Hard Disk:

goto MENU screen
goto SETUP screen
goto HELP screen
At HELP screen, Enter 1397 - this accesses the engineer panel - you can reformat the HDD in this menu - you will lose all recorded programmes and planned recordings but it clears locked or corrupted files

OR - at the HELP screen, press the GREEN button

On the lower half of the screen youwill see 3 options:

Blue - Reformat HDD - clears all the memory/HDD - useful if you have a corrupted file - you will lose all recorded programmes though

Red - reset the whole box to factory settings - good if you have a locked box or reception problems or cannto scan for new channels. It goes back to when you bought the box, so you will have to input favourites and planned recordings again

Yellow - Software revert - allows you to go back to the previous software driver - you may lose new functions, but you can always restore it back again using the same feature

Hiya, I have had the same problem a couple of times and I have been lucky enough to fix it. Firstly switch off the player, switch it back on (my actual TV works, it just freezes when it goes into the library). What you have to do is delete the last recorded program (at the top of the list) and this unfreezes the player.
So, once you click into the library mine freezes within around 2 seconds, what I did was select library and as soon as that library screen appears press the BLUE button and then the green button to confirm the deletion. It takes a little while longer to delete the program but eventually it does and then seems to reset itself. Its a bit of a pain really, and tricky to catch - but rather that than lose the contents of the HD.
Hope this helps?
Best Wishes. Ben

Recorded a time record program on usb now how do you play back the recording on ematic AT103C converter box pressed play nothing worked.

Was the flash drive properly formatted? The Ematic AT103C needs the flash drive to be a FAT32 volume. Hard drives can be formatted as NTFS or FAT32.

Next press Menu and enter the USB menu. Select the Multimedia option. In this menu, select the PVR icon. Then select the recorded file and press Play. Press Hold to get the image to full-screen.

I hope this helps.

Thomson dti6300-16

You can still record all the freeview channels. What has happened is you've run out of room on your hard drive. First you must deselect all the top up channels;
menu > 'Setup' > 'Customise TUTV', and un-ticking all boxes releases space and produces a report of '100%' free for recording. The time available for recording depends on the size of the hard drive and amount of data saved in each recording and 15% of disc space is not counted. This is for software or programme information etc. and, even when not subscribed, ads from TUTV are downloaded to library. However they are replaced or removed automatically, and messages are deleted after a week.
Also delete all the recordings in the library you don't need anymore.

Black screen

80% or more of the issues with your DVR can be resolved by unplugging the box for 90 seconds and plugging it back in. There are some features that will be avilable immediately, and others that will take time to download. IE: all of the quide. I can't stress this enough - reboot your DVR occasionally - just like your computer its hard drive might need this.

I have also seen the hard drive inside this box appear bad when it was actually a problem with one recording. In my case it was a recording on the wrong channel, one that did not broadcast anything in my market. I was unable to access any of my recorded programs and when I tried to play the one in question, the screen went black. I deleted the program and all was well.

Recording is choppy and picture freezes

Most likely it's the hard drive, or a loose connection. Either way, I'd bet it's the hard drive and you can replace it very easily.
