Ok, I've been having disk read errors on my 30001 Playstation 2, I cleaned the lens and that worked perfectly, it read silver and blue sided discs, shortly after it stopped reading silver sided discs, I tried adjusting the voltage, I don't think that worked, and I've tried moving the white cog inside the ps2 but that resets back to what it was everytime I turn the machine on, is there a way to make it stop resetting itslef?
Dang it, I was hoping you didn't say that, haha, oh well, I don't know, I might try to look for a replacement on either the lens or a used system. It's not a big deal, I was only trying to play it for a custom Guitar Hero 2, ha but alright then, thank youDang it, I was hoping you didn't say that, haha, oh well, I don't know, I might try to look for a replacement on either the lens or a used system. There is not a way to keep it from resetting, however it does sound like the lens is bad. Since it sounds like you have no problem working with them you can get a new lens cheaper than buying a new machine. The 30001's had 2 or 3 different type lens in them. You can seach ebay for them, they are normally for sale there around $40-50 last time I checked. Since cleaning and adjusting does not fix it, I think this is the last resort, other than full replacement of the system :-) Sorry....

If you're getting a Disc Read Error, you may need to clean the disc. Inspect it for scratches. Is it the only PSX game that won't work? If all your PSX games won't read, you should clean the lens of your PS2, although the read errors are a sign of lens damage.
You have to take the box apart and clean the lens.Ok !
The white plastic gear that moves the laser must make
contact with the "motor". A bad contact here can cause disk read
errors. Sometimes it looks Ok, but you may need to remove the lens and
bend the white gear for good contact.
The two rails on
which the lens move must be very slippery - which can be lubricated
with cooking or motor oil. Usually the holes where the rail is (on the
right side of the lens) are dirty or you have to bore then out
slightly, making the holes bigger.
The lens uses little
torx screw (black) that move the lens up and down on the rail. Usually
the lens is too high and requires adjustment.
Take the
lens off these 2 rails and take the black plastic cover off. Turn the
lense upside-down and you'll find there are 2 screws (silver, phillips
or torx) that you have to remove to take the upper little lens off.
Then
you'll see a larger lens that is usually very dirty (this lens is a
mirror to light). If that's dirty, it will give a disk read error.
You'll have to take the little electric board off that you see on the
other side of the big lens-mirror. It's probably dirty too, so clean
it. Alcohol should work OK for this task.
The lens bottom has 2 + 2 screws. You move the upper "little" lens up-down-left-right (this may require a special screwdriver)
The motor "rail" that moves the lens must be very clean and oiled and the 2 rails too.
