Hi,

When the sound is working and the picture is not it indicates the main power supplies are working but the picture supply is not. The picture supply that powers the projection tubes is a high voltage generator and is very expensive to repair. Not even most tv techs now how to troubleshoot them. So, I cannot recommend you repair it yourself unless you are a trained high voltage tech.

The cost of repair - my wild guess - would be around $300. However, the real cost can only be determined by someone who can make an accurate diagnosis - which will require a hands-on approach the problem.

If you have any other problem please ask me..

The problem can also be the video output circuitry or CRT filament
connections. Check to see if the CRT filaments are glowing. If they are
not glowing, check for bad soldering on the CRT neck board and around
    the flyback transformer.

I have a Hitachi model 50ex8k in the left hand corner where the pip would apear there is a box with different color horizontal line that wont go awayr

Does the PIP button do anything to / for the box? It is just that it is tuned to an input with no signal, you should be able to remove it though with the PIP button...

Let me know what the PIP button does, if nothing that's very strange, but let me know and I can help you fix it.

Thanks
Tim

Hitachi 57UWX20B 57 in.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Hitachi 57uwx20b

First of all there is no light engine inside your set. Your model is CRT based. Can you better describe what you mean by the green only working occasionally? What exactly is the picture doing? Also, please confirm that your model is: 57UWX20B.

Thanks,
Dan

Hitachi and PS3

Just a note, I am getting ready to buy the same TV. The person I am buying the TV from says the same thing. Not sure of the answer, but If you have the answer now I would like to know. As far as the sound goes, you will have to hook it up separately, the HDMI-DVI (Digital Video input) Video being the key word, it doesnt carry the audio signal. I hope to figure the problem out this weekend when I actually get te TV and try a few things.

Sometimes it takes a minute to get Reception

White raster with no signal, washed out looking video with signal. Access the service menu, "menu 0357" use the audio button to select "video chroma" adjustments, use the video button to select item "40 - AGIW", use the adjust button to change the setting to 0, then press the enter button to store the change
