The back light is the whole of the screen, the screen is illuminated by a CCFL lamp (fluro tube) on the bottom of the screen. A inverter supplies high voltage to this CCFL lamp. If
your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the
problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a

It sounds like the computer is trying to use a resolution that the monitor cannot handle. Boot into safe mode by pressing the f8 key during boot up and select safe mode. Once booted, right click on the desktop and select properties. In settings lower the resolution by moving the bar to the left and reboot.
I would move it all the way down, you can then move it up a step at a time once you are in normal mode again.
your recovery dics should not be a dvd, but a cd. look at all of your discs and make sure you are using the right one, if you cant find the right one call sony and ask them which one to use.

1. Put in Wrong region disk
2. Wait for "Wrong disk message"
3. press on the remote
