How do I get tcp/ip address from ISP provider (BigPond)

Normally TCP/IP addresses are allocated using DHCP by the provider to the router. The router will have a private address range, which will be given to a local network by its own TCP/IP.

First you can find your internal ip address of your netbook by using these following steps

Again go to command prompt
  1. Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).
  2. Type "ipconfig /renew" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).
If you want to know your external ip address Just visit the site Ip-Details.com
your external ip address assign by your internet service provider. if you want to change this do the following procedure
  1. Log into the router's admin console. (Often http://192.168.1.1/)
  2. Release the IP address. (Method varies by router manufacturer)
  3. Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem.

I have 2 computers that are running off the same IP Address, i want to change one of the address, how can i do this?

Is your router set to DHCP? You can manually set the IP address on your network adapter by going to it's properties, highlight IP Version 4, click properties. Another method would be to go to the command prompt on one of your computers type ipconfig /release then hit the up arrow on your keyboard backspace over the word release then type renew and if your router is set to DHCP it should pull a different IP address now.

The easiest way to release and renew your IP with a router that doesn't have that feature is to unplug the modem (not the router) for a few minutes - overnight while your sleeping to be sure.

Every time I run the DSL-504 ADSL2 Ethernet Router CD disc to setup my internet connection, always get the dslultility.exe message say "modam not deteched....." but everything is...

To release and renew IP address, go to Start > Run. Type in CMD and press Enter. At the prompt, type in ipconfig and press Enter. This will display the adapter information such as IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.

To view additional information such as Mac address, DNS servers, etc, type in ipconfig /all.

To release IP address, type ipconfig /release.

To renew IP address, type ipconfig /renew.

If you are not able to get an IP address try setting one statically:

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Step 3 Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Enter your IP information for your network.

If connecting to a router, make sure the default gateway and a DNS server is the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Windows XP

Step 4 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

My friends has a netgear wgr 614 v9, and it wont connect,, juts keeps saying acquiring network address, i tried to reset it ( lil hole at the rear ) but no joy,, how can i solve this,, would someone...

your computer is not getting IP address from the router. You said that you reset the router. Press the Reset button on the router and hold it down for 30 seconds. release it. Unplug the power to the router and plug it back in. restart your computer and check if that connects. If that doesn't work then assign a static IP address in the range of your router. you will need to find out the default IP address of the router. you will find the default IP address of the router in the router manual or if you go to the web site of the manufacturer, you will get the IP address of that router. Now once you assign a static IP address to the computer it will show you connected , now try to set up your router.

Change ip

Your IP address is assigned (leased) to you from your internet service provider. With that being said, you could possibly call them and ask to release your old IP address and have them assign a new one. If you happen to have a static IP address assigned from your ISP you can call them as well and ask to have your IP address changed too. It would be up to them to change it though.

Connection (or disconnection) difficulties

The time span for the assigned IP address are controlled by the router in the DHCP configuration, which can be set to your satisfaction, by accessing the router configuration page, by entering http://192.168.0.1 in the internet explorer address window. Be sure to use the IP Address assigned to the router.. Also you can release an IP of a computer by opening the MS/DOS command window by clicking Start/Run and typing in CMD and then enter at the courser ipconfig /release this will release the ip. then type ipconfig /renew this will reset the ip of the computer. If this helps please rate as a FixYa. Thanks BPCS
