The RAM just clips in. But be aware that there are many different types of RAM which either will not physically fit into your computer, or it may be incompatible.
Remove your RAM modules and look at them .. you will see (maybe..) a sticker with numbers on ..i.e PC2300 DDR2 .. whatever. Use ebay to search for a RAM supplier but do ask their advice about which RAM you can fit. Those guys are usually on the ball and very helpful and will supply the correct RAM for your particular motherboard.
Incidentally, Vista was never a good operating system. Too many problems with it. A lot of people reinstalled XP or upgraded to Windows 7

Yes....
Make sure that the power is off, and uplug the unit from the back. Then install the memory and plug it back in then power it back up. The computer will see the new memory and so will Vista.
