the short answer is no, it was an economy laptop maybe 5 years ago so would not have been equipped with what would have been a very expensive option

try running windows in safe mode then change your video settings to what looks good

Call Technical support of dell and inform them its broken, if you have the complete care warranty part will be replaced without charge

yes thats true on the back of the screen there is a part number or model number!

Call Dell tomorrow... it will still be under warranty!

One thing to try is removing the battery and running it straight from the power adaptor. If it runs, you have a bad battery.

If the battery is not faulty and the charging circuit is faulty then youe computer should be fixed under warranty.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

The buzzing sound is most likely the inverter problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
