Most likely the CD drive mechanism isn't scanning from one side to the other. This the initialization process for the player. 1st thing to check is the little rubber motor belt that drives the mechanism up and down the rails. If its not moving then your exact condition will exist.

Check to make sure the white plastic door carriages have not come off their spindle (mine was the right hand one) it was preventing the disc from going all the way right (and i beleive a "door closed" micro switch as it still didnt work with the peice removed and aligned to the proper gear tooth when replaced)

CD stuck in player.
Unplug.
Remove lid, small black screws on side and along the top of the back.
Fiddle with latch on left side near front that controls the door.
Once latch is released, open door and remove all CD's.
Make sure 2 CD's are not **** in player.
Move CD cage carefully. It should run smoothly along. If not it is locked in 'switched off mode' or CD is stuck half in and half out. If CD stuck fish CD out carefully.
Plug back in without any CD's in.
System should run back and forward and then lock at left hand end.
Put lid on and try one CD in one slot.

I have the same problem but there is no CD stuck. The player keeps checking for discs and when I hit the power button, it says "off" but it is still lit and cannot be turned back on unless I unplug and start again. But it still keeps "checking for discs" . Every once in a while it will work, but rarely

When i change from radio or single disc to the 6 disc changer there is an error it won't read any discs.... It wont even change discs it won't do anything really...

I suspect that your 6 cd changer is having the fault. The error indicates always a system malfunctioning. From our point of view we can probe into for a solution by the following guidelines.
first of all open the 6 Cd changer from the top. look within to find that the changer is jammed inside. If so slowly tapp while you switch on the power. if the jamm clears and the changer ejects, then open out all the cd's present in the changer for any damage due to heat. If this did not solve, clowing chek for foreign particles/dust that has blocked the loading drive.from completing the cycle so as to reset the mode. normally all errors show because of the processor not receiving the complete cycle signals. hence check for all the moving parts, the drives and the loading mechanism. check also for any linkage damge, any leadd specially flexible line wiring to the motors for an open circuit. Slowly turn the motor drive to intiate to confirm if the motor has failed. Altogether use a multimeter and check in all the sections described.
I hope this helps. Good day.

400 disc changer (dvd/cd) has stopped playing the voice tracks from dvd movies. can hear all the rest of the soundtrack.

DVD movies usually send out a digital signal, like dolby digital, and this requires a matching decoder in your receiver in order to hear anything. Regular CDs don't use dolby digital, usually. Check you receiver to make sure it can decode the digital signal, and check your optical or digital coaxial cable.

Since the receiver eventually works, the delay circuit is failing. This is a circuit that allows the power supply to settle down before kicking in the output relay. This prevents the "pop" that was sometimes heard on older units. This should be a simple and inexpensive repair probably requiring the replacement of a couple of small capacitors in that delay/protection circuit.
