double check there isn't a piece of wire that has broken off the speaker cables and is shorting two of the speaker terminals together. The unit needs to be turned off and unplugged for a minute to reset the protection circuitry. If this doesn't fix it, there's likely an internal failure.

Check the bottom of the receiver. there should be an access panel under the amp ic section. Look at the connections on the amp ic's and voltage regulators that are next to them. If you see any round rings or loose looking connections, it could just need to be resoldered. This is pretty common on these receivers.

There are 2 major possibilities and since you didn't say if the sound comes back here's the general split.
1. The power amp section could be having problems and/or protection circuits are kicking in. In this case repair of the amp will be needed.
2. There is a bad connection somewhere making the audio path go bad. In this case a good can of contact cleaner applied to all switches and controls may help. If not, the bad connection may be internal. If tapping (or rapping) on the unit makes it come back, there's probably a bad internal connection.
If letting the unit cool down brings back the sound, its the power amp section.

Yes, it connects directly to your TV with a choice of cables - check their site for a description of your options there.  And if you have a wireless network (router) it will connect to the internet through that, so you don't need to have a cable running back to where your computer is.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

yes, there is such. There is a fuse on each channel. Get a screw driver, disassemble the unit, and check the fuse on the channel.

If the fuse is intact, then it means a capacitor or diode may have become defective. Use a meter to detect the bad component on the non working channel, the will reveal the problem.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

Good luck.

Hi, Have got and still use a Technics SA-GX910 Dolby Amp. It had an overheating problem too due to Air temp and power drain etc and the internal fan only engaged at certain volume level. Overheating was overcome by adding another internal fan.
Your unit however might need a bit more of a fix-me-up or throw it away

Usually two screws top and bottom of each side panel
4 screws in the rear panel

If not there, they are hidden under the feet.

Try a cleaning CD, the ones with the little cleaning brushes. Dusty optics can cause that. There is one for tracking and one for reading. You can get them at Walmart.
