Scanner software can't find the scanner anymore

Intermittent problem (now permanent) of scanner software not seeing the scanner. First it was an intermittent Microtek software problem so I uninstalled and installed VueScan software. It worked for a short time, but then started having the same intermittent problem. Now it doesn't connect at all. Was connected via Firewire and tried via USB with same result (it's not the cable).

    It's not a software/driver/source problem. It's a hardware problem. After checking around, the consensus is that my Microtek scanner is a paper weight (not worth fixing).

From the menu you have to take the source first
Sources could be scanner, camera etc.
Make sure you have the scanner selected before you try to scan

I cannot scan anymore and the message is saying that the scanner is not connected, however the printer is working so it must be connected.

Sounds like the twain drivers for the Epson scanner part of the unit are not installed. When that happens the computer won't see a scanner, just the printer. Try re-installing the Epson software that came with the unit.

From what you described it sounds like you need to get the "scanner assembly" replaced.
The bulb is probably bad and won't come on to full power.
Not knowing what kind of printer you have, probably won't change the fix. If you can look at the event log you may be able to see an error code which could make it a definite scanner assembly replacement.
If you want to throw money at this unknown printer, get a tech to look at it and give you an estimate.

Installation of AOC Spectrum F-1210 Flatbed Scanner

Even if the software is (more than likely) unavailable, try www.twain.org... for a possible driver, or driverguide.com. You could at least then have functionality of the scanner, while looking for the regular software :)

Novice / 1st time

You are luck you even got a manual! Anymore most instructions are either on the CD or online.

First do not hook up the scanner(USB I assume) . Install the software first and follow the instructions for installing. The program should tell you when to hook up the scanner cable.

After that it is trial and error to learn the software for the scanner.
If you provide the scanner model I might be able to help more.

Hp 7100 series scanner problem

In most cases this can be resolved by uninstalling the hp software, disconnecting the printer from the computer, still powered up, and reinstalling the correct software for your operating system and not connecting the printer to the computer until the software requests you to. All necessary drivers and software can be downloaded from HP Support.

Software doesn't work anymore

If you got this scanner to work with Windows 98, the scanner is an antique. New scanners are so much better, my first suggestion is to get a new scanner, one that works with Vista as well as XP. It will have all new software that comes with it. Otherwise you could purchase, new software such as Nuance Easy Media Creator 10 Suite, right now you can get it with Paperport 11 added in for FREE. However consider the cost of a new scanner, versus the cost of buying new software only, and running it on the old scanner.
