This means that a gear is jammed or broken somewhere. Check for waste full and empty or drum waste roller and unblock the jammed toner inside that unit or check fuser gear if broken then replace it.

Upon replacing the drum on my Sharp AL-1631, the drum indicator light is still illuminated and the copier still won't function. Is there something I need to do after replacing the drum to get it to copy...

To reset the drum light on your Sharp AL1631 series copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)
Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again.
So in other words C, far left, C, far left
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Then key in 24 as if you were going to make 24 copies.
Now press the "print" button
Now key in 7 as if you were making 7 copies
Now press the print button again.
You should now be getting flashing zero's on the display.
Turn the machine off then on again and your drum light should be gone.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Sharp AL Series Copier Drum Light Cartridge Counter Reset

To reset the drum light on just about any Sharp AL series copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)
Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again.
So in other words C, far left, C, far left
Some model's use 2 other initial codes, so you may need to use one of these 2 alternate codes to get your display to go blank. The rest of the procedure is the same.
Alternate codes are: #, * , C, * or pound,star,C,star and also
#, Interupt, C, Interupt
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Then key in 24 as if you were going to make 24 copies.
Now press the "print" button
Now key in 7 as if you were making 7 copies
Now press the print button again.
You should now be getting flashing zero's on the display.
Turn the machine off then on again and your drum light should be gone!
You can usually reset this counter at least once to get twice the life out of your drum unit.
This works in the following models:
Sharp AL1000, Sharp AL1010, Sharp AL1020, Sharp AL1041, Sharp AL1200, Sharp AL1215, Sharp AL1220, Sharp AL1250, Sharp AL1251, Sharp AL1340, Sharp AL1451, Sharp AL1520, Sharp AL1521, Sharp AL1530CS, Sharp AL1540CS, Sharp AL1551, Sharp AL1551CS, Sharp AL1631, Sharp AL1641CS, Sharp AL1651, Sharp AL1651CS, Sharp AL1655CS, Sharp AL1661, Sharp AL1661CS

Which toner cartridge do I need? Where can I buy one?

The Sharp AL1631 takes a Sharp AL 100TD cartridge (hi-yield), or a Sharp AL 110TD cartridge (standard yield). IBS still has them, there phone number is 800-8810226.

Sharp al1631 copier doesn't work after replacing new drum

Press the following keys in sequence and as fast as possible. Clear, exposure mode (far left key), clear, exposure mode. In other words...clear, far left, clear, far left. The display should go blank if this is done properly. If so then enter 24 as if you were going to make 24 copies, then press print. You should get flashing 000. then enter 7 as if you were making 7 copies, then press print. Should get flashing zero's.
Hit clear a few times and there you go!
Here it is in a line:
"C",far left, "C", far left, 24,print,7,print, CCC or turn machine off then on.

Sharp al1631 copier, copys are too Dim settings don't help ?

Check the toner supply, it may be running out of toner. Check the bottle or cartridge for correct install. Turn the machine on and let it warm up, Recheck the copy quality. If it is still light run a dozen blank copies, then a test copy if it is improving the toner is depleted and need to catch up, if it isn't there may be a problem with the toner add system.

Hope this is of some help.

Sharp AL1631 Copier Intermittent Problem

There are several reasons this could be happening.

1. If you are not using Sharp Genuine products

2. The toner cartridge might not be fully seated

3. Voltage for the specified plug may be incorrect voltage or overloaded.

The faint clicking sound is most likely the machine stirring toner. I have seen where a sensor that detects toner level inside the developer unit get covered in a sludge, but if you just replaced the TD unit it should be okay.
