Onkyo TX-DS474 has no center speaker or surround speaker output

All the other speaker and line outputs work fine. I have followed the programming and troubleshooting instructions in the Instruction Manual and also did the microprocessor reset procedure from the service manual. I reseated all the pcb connectors and tested the speaker driver transistors for opens, shorts, and cracked solder. The customer said those outputs had been working and stopped. I am testing with my own speakers. Is there a history of this problem on this model? The way the unit is made, it will be a big job to get everything in a position where I can follow all the control and signal information with a scope.

I had found a defective logic transistor that was used to drive the output select relays and that fixed that particular problem.

Hello Fixya team, I need help!

To set up your home theater system with the equipment you mentioned, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the Onkyo receiver to the NEC TV using an HDMI cable. Make sure the HDMI input on the TV is set to the correct input for the Onkyo receiver.
  2. Connect the Panasonic DVD player to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  3. Connect the Firestick Lite to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  4. Connect the Panasonic speakers to the Onkyo receiver using speaker wires. Make sure you connect the speakers to the correct speaker terminals on the receiver, which are usually labeled with the speaker's position (e.g. front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right).
  5. Configure the Onkyo receiver to use the correct input for each device. For example, set the input to "DVD" when you want to watch a movie on the Panasonic DVD player, or set the input to "Firestick" when you want to watch content on the Firestick Lite.
  6. Configure the audio settings on the Onkyo receiver to use the correct audio format for your content. For example, if you are watching a movie with Dolby Digital surround sound, make sure the receiver is set to decode Dolby Digital audio.
  7. Adjust the volume and other audio settings on the Onkyo receiver as needed to optimize the sound quality.
Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to enjoy surround sound audio from your Panasonic speakers through the Onkyo receiver.

7.1 would have Surround Back L and R.

6.1 would have just one back there (SB). It defaults to the Left output on the Pre-Outs if you ever go that route.

This being a 6.1 receiver it does not support two SB channels BUT you can configure those amp channels for a separate Zone supporting 2 speakers. Confused?

The manual shows a single SB speaker connected to the left side on Page 27. THAT would be consistent with a 6.1 configuration.

PCM is what it's receiving from the DVD player. The player has output bitstream settings, too, maybe even speaker configurations and distances. Read its manual.

I can't figure out what output to hook my Mirage nanoset 5.1 sub woofer up to.

There should be a purple colored RCA jack on the unit's rear.
This is the output to the sub.

Sound disappears when channel is changed

try connect a rca cables to ensure sound , the tv has scart port or audio output rca? the digital input on receiver is non priority level, so every time you change chanell the receiver jumps to next Line input present. (receiver output security)
