Dell speakers do not work since having computer fixed for viruses. Speakers are Okay and connected correctly. Viruses were concentrated in Windows System 32. How can I fix this problem? Speakers worked fine before viruses attacked the computer.

I just purchased a Dell XPS 8500 with Windows 8 and decided to keep using my old Harmon Kardon HK 206 speakers because I'm quite satisfied with these speakers. When I hooked them to my new PC, Windows 8 recognized them right away. The speakers work great on my new PC. Try going to the Control Panel and see if your speakers were recognized. (On my PC they're referred to as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio). That's due to the default drivers in Windows 8. As long as you see speakers in the control panel, you should be OK. In that case you should check your connections. If you don't see speakers in the control panel, go back one screen and select add a device and let Windows 8 scan for any device that it hadn't recognized before.

Scan your PC for viruses.
If still not working format your PC and run any sample song without installing any game or soft as they may contain virus.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then reinstall either the sound drivers or the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver right click to install driver

Check and make sure that you have the drivers installed for your soundcard. If the drivers are installed, check your speakers on another computer. If the speakers don't work on another computer try a different set of speakers on your computer. If the speakers work on another computer then it is either a driver issue or your sound card is bad. You did not specify if it was a desktop or laptop. I assumed it was a desktop. If it is a laptop then the speakers test is next to impossible but you can still try a set of heaphones.

If your speakers are good, your drivers are installed, then try checking for viruses. I have experienced that before. Test for virus, spyware, adware, malware, etc.

Finally if all else fails, reinstall windows and drivers. Make sure you have a backup of your data and a copy of the programs you need to reinstall. Good Luck!

i had the exact problem! it didn't work but when i tested it they worked! probably you have a virus that deleted some of your C\Windows\System32 files. Reinstall your windows. there is nothing wrong with the speakers don't worry. reinstalling windows will solve the problem

check the sound software is instaled or not or
check mute is on or not

Some viruses do lock themselves to legitimate Windows programs. If they get delete, so do the Windows programs.

Re-installation is your next logical step.

click volume bottom right desck top.

open volume control and make sure nothing is checked in the mute boxes.

this is due to small mismatch on ur dell desktop with speakers, so remove it and try again

I have checked the wire connections and the speakers are plugged into the computer in the correct spot. I can not get sound and the green light is not on. What can i do to fix the problem. Power has gone out in the office a few times could this be a factor in the problem?
