Altec Lansing ada885
Same issue showed up for me today very randomly...
HD comes on and off for no reason and sound cuts in and out. This fix worked for me:
1.Disconnect the left speaker from the sub woofer.
2.Take the 4 screws out on the bottom of the left speaker. (They are under the rubber matting you can just poke holes through it)
3. Remove the bottom plastic assembly from the speaker
4. Cut the 4 wires to the headset chip. Careful not to cut any others to the speakers themselves!
5. Unscrew and remove headset plug chip
6. Reassemble and plug left speaker back into sub woofer.
No more HD issues =)

Short in subwoofer wire - Altec Lansing computer speakers & sub
yes, you can splice the cables and put on a new connector, goto radio shack with the old connector and im sure they will have one you can splice right onto it. ive done this many times with varios equipment "headphones speakers etc" it may take a couple of tries to get the wiring right but if its just one speaker there will most likely be just 2 wires, if you wire it up and it doesnt quite sound right, wire it the other way. speakers will work wired backwards but wont sound quit right so if it doesnt, rewire it and it should. good luck and i hope this helps!
No sound from speakers. Flashing sound mode shown
Hi da1.... Let's begin with the wires. First of all make sure they are fully seated into both ends. If this alone solves the problem, great. If not, replace the wires with a new length of speaker wire as sometimes the wires themselves break inside the coating causing problems.
Since you have sound coming from the headphones, it appears that the source of that sound is good. That said, unplug the headphones and then check to see if the sound is coming from the speakers as some systems only have enough power to feed one or the other. Joe
Thanks for choosing Fixya!
Lights on Altec Lansing display flashing after
I had the same problem. It ended up being a short in one of the wires in the control board. It was actually pretty easy to fix once I located all the screws to take apart the speaker where the board is housed...
No sound from subwoofer
If your subwoofer does not work on your altec lansing speakers, more than likely you blew the subwoofer amplifier board.I have an ADA-885 system and bought it brand new back inNovember 2000 and has been flawlessly operating great upuntil this past month when my subwoofer went out but my"satellite" speakers kept working. After disassembling thesubwoofer box I first noticed that the subwoofer amplifierboard is seperate from the rest of the grouped boards forthe dolby and satellite speakers. The subwoofer box isdesigned to use the air from the subwoofer to actuallycool the amplifier boards inside the unit, great featureuntil your subwoofer goes out, that is when your mainamp will more than likely fail soon after the sub ampfails, as it uses the air from the subwoofer to keep theamps cool. I know this might be an older post but hopefully I can put it in the right category to hopefullybe able to help someone out in the future. You can test the ohms of the speaker with a multitester. It's a dual voice coil speaker, 6 ohms each.Well my system is broke and needs anothersubwoofer amplifier board so if anybody readsthis and has this subwoofer, I need my sub ampfixed ! or if you have the subwoofer unit maybeand nothing else to go with it but the subwooferlights up, give me a jingle, I'd buy it from you !!
