Left click button below touchpad on dv8000 not working

Today my hp laptop dv8000 decided to stop working. the right click works fine as well as the touchpad. The left click doesnt work at all and is loose. i took it into best buy and they couldnt figue it out. They said that I would probably have to replace the whole piece, touch pad and right/left clicks. Any suggestions on what it could be?  Also tonight it would work for maybe 15 seconds then stop working again.
Thanks,  Sarah

    Hiya Sarah,

My DV8000 started the same thing this morning. Did you have a solution? It appears the left mouse key is damaged. The right key has it's normal smooth click feel where as the left key has a distinct rocking click..like maybe it's not seated properly.

I have same problem with left click. I called HP, they asked me a lot of confirmation questions such as name, adress, e-mail , phone numbers, finally they came to the point after 25 minutes conversation on the phone which made me sad. They said my warranty is expired 32 days ago , and they cannot even give me advise on the phone. I had no problem for one year at all I was just expecting to hear a simple solution. But it didnt happen. I will not buy HP products especially leptops anymore.

Buy a new USB mouse so that you will not bother using the left click on the laptop anymore. try also restarting your computer.

My HP laptop has the same ledft click problem. At less than 6 months old, I sent it to HP to be fixed. When I got it back it worked mostly but still had issues. Now it is not working again.
HP customer service sent us a box right away to ship it to them with postage paid. This time they want to keep us on the phone for 40 minutes troubleshooting software. They refuse to just take the damn thing back and fix it. I won't be buying an HP laptop again. BTW I have another HP whose hard drive is dead at about a year old.

Toshiba Laptop left click stopped wokring?

1) Examine your "Function"/"F" keys and look for a touchpad icon. If you find one, hold the "Fn" key and press the touchpad icon button to unlock the touchpad. Move on to Step 2 if your laptop doesn't support this feature.

  • 2) Plug a USB mouse into an open port on your laptop. Click the Windows "Start" button. Click "Control Panel" in Windows XP and double-click "Device Manager." Type "Device" in the search box in Vista and Windows 7 and click "Device Manager" from the results.
  • 3) Click "+" next to "Mice and other pointing devices." Right-click the touchpad and select "Enable." Your touchpad is now unlocked.

Tapping on gateway nv 53 trackpad not working

This just happened on my HP2730P. I always used the click on the touchpad, plus used the right click button at the bottom. Yesterday it just decided to stop working and went haywier...it started doing the selecting and dragging while I was moving the mouse around and my left click stopped working. Obviously my enable tap click was already on cuz I used it all the time.

My solution was disabling the buttons under the "buttons" tab. Then my mousepad tap started working again, I regained function in the scrollbar on the mousepad again, and if I need to right click I can use the point stick buttons right above the pad.

    OR

Does it start working when you reboot? If so, try changing the "Touchpad Sensitivity" option :)

    Touchpad does not work 100%

You can "tap" on touchpad as you do with left click,
otherwise it needs new touchpad assembly.
