Help! Compaq Laptop "Plugged in,Battery Not Charging"

I had the same problem on my CQ60. HP battery test showed one or more cells not working. After spending about 2 hours talking to some guy in India,or somewhere, he came to the conclusion that my battery was bad. HP sent me a new battery, which fixed the problem.

My Compac CQ60 will not

NO OS stated. i bet it not 220US (us means usa, what is your 2 letters there) if it was US Laptop the books is free at HP to read. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01487709 unlock i bet you mean set to non secure AD HOC wifi mode. and a danger, that is. first discover how your router is setup., only you can do that read the manual in it,the go there in your browser and set the wifi up as you want or set up your pc to match it. set SSID broard case to like ROVER2. (dog name ?) the set encryption to WPA2 then set the passphrase. like 1a5!9xaz3k6 the connect all things that way. dont tell the other 512 your settings, ever. your pc came with 802.11b/g wifi im reading your manual now on line it says this. shows it came with 3 wifi chips (options) here is the spec, for 2nd one,(coin toss) 128-bit WEP, 64-bit WEP, AES, PEAP, TLS, TTLS, WPA, WPA2 so if you set the router to wpa2 and same in your PC and it will work.

Whenever I turn my Compaq

deads'ville. my old PC CQ60-220us, thanks for full number !!! what os? VISTA? those are called flash codes and have meaning! the screen never once shows TEXT or HP /Compaq logos. right? nothing to me means just the the TEXT IS GONE "hit ESC to enter setup" or F2,F10,,etc.... carbon14 dated by me at 2008, ? (MY HP has F1 info page shows day made, a BIOS page F1) The year mATTERS. steps below. for dead pc. means screen dead, and BIOS keys dead.
  1. take the battery main out, they short, remove it ;after all you can run like that for ever on the line pack, a fact. so do so now.
  2. does it power on, seems yes, does it stay on? (heard and seen)
  3. does the fan blow< spin and not packed solid in lint?
  4. use flash light pointed at screen , turn PC on the use the flashlight see data now? yes, bad black lamps CCFL, ask
  5. beep codes or caps lock flash codes,? write them down and tell the helper what the are? its code. like Morse code.
  6. there are more tests. does the CD eject button work?
my wild guess, (unseen by me) is the CCFL lamps are dead. the LCD on this PC has lamps for the back lamp that all burn out at 20k hours of usage. (short lived, if used constantly) other tests are: ask
  • boot from free linux disk see of screen works?
  • replace coin cell battery they usually don't last 10 years. 7 max.
  • power pack bad and is weak, some fail weak
  • keep in mind black screen failures have many causes.
  • bad power, bad screen, shorts inside the pc, bad RAM.
  • also the GPU chips in 2008 were bad, defective, solder ball failures. making the screen dead or very odd.
here is a black screen page. http://pcdied.com/black-screen.html#Laptop HP is the best maker of PC.s (not custom made as I do) but has best docs. but they do have 1 weakness, BIOS docs and Beep/blink codes horrible support there, due to changing the rules 20 times. or more. HP also modified the BIOS to their needs, making generic lookups on say Award BIOS useless.. ouch. The older the PC the worse this gets, books covering that.

My compaq presario CQ60-220US won't turn on

wow, no tests down with battery out. battery is the #1 failure in all laptop made. and fails many ways. the firewalls does not source power, forget that. If fact the HDD removed the power systems work perfectly. tests, run with no battery, IT MUST, if not the line power pack is TOASTED. runs with battery only, no, yes? (if charged) is this hard, no. try to know batteries can short. when they short they can overload any charger chip and can the PC. Batteries are week techology no battery ever lasts as long as the PC or any of its other parts. the fail some can fail in 6 months time. why wait, run with no battery, heck some do for years. after learning to hate batteries. I have 2 and is only for travel every year, i test them before for my trip for proper run times. only that works, in the world of batteries.

Need to put system recovery disc's 2 disc set on flash since dvd drive has quit on me.

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001366.htm How to create a bootable Windows USB drive. A common use of a bootable USB flash drive is to use it to boot into Windows. Booting from removable media such as a USB drive allows you to perform diagnostics on a computer that is having trouble booting from the hard drive. You can also use the flash drive to install Windows, instead of using the Windows installation CD. This guide will outline making a bootable USB flash drive with Windows XP, Vista, or 7. Before we begin, it is important to note that the computer you want to use your bootable USB drive must be able to use a USB drive as a boot device. Most computers built since Windows Vista was released are capable of booting to a USB device. Prior to the Windows Vista time frame, it is hit or miss with motherboards. To determine if a computer is capable of booting to a USB device, access the computer's BIOS and check the bootable device list. If a USB device is listed, set the USB drive to be the first boot device. If you do not see a USB device in the list of bootable devices, your BIOS is not capable of booting to a USB device. Note: You may need to have your USB flash drive plugged in when you access the BIOS). Windows Vista and Windows 7 users To make a bootable USB drive for Windows Vista or Windows 7, you need to have Windows Vista or 7 installed on your computer. It is recommended that you have a flash drive of at least 4 GB in size, to store all the necessary files. Tip: Before you start, plug in the USB drive and backup any files you have stored on the USB drive. The drive will be formatted during this process and all files on it will be deleted. Note: You need to have a Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD for these instructions to be successful. 1. Open an elevated Windows command line window by clicking Start, typing in cmd in the search text field, then pressing CTRL + Shift + Enter on your keyboard (at the same time). You can also access this by navigating to Start, All Programs, Accessories, right-click with your mouse on the Command Prompt menu item and select Run as Administrator. 2. At the command prompt, type cd c:\windows\system32 to change the directory to the Windows system32 directory. Ensure your USB drive is plugged in, type DISKPART, then press Enter. Type LIST DISK and press Enter. 3. You will see a listing of the disk drives connected to your computer. Find the disk number of your USB drive and type SELECT DISK [USB disk #], where "[USB disk #]" is the disk # for your USB drive. It should now state that your USB drive is the selected disk. If you're not sure what disk is the USB disk, eject the USB drive, perform step number 2 again, connect the USB drive again, and compare the results. Usually the USB drive will be the last drive. 4. Type in the following commands, one by one, pressing Enter after each command. CLEAN CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SELECT PARTITION 1 ACTIVE FORMAT FS=NTFS (may take a couple minutes, depending on the USB drive size) ASSIGN EXIT Keep the command prompt window open, but you can minimize it for a little bit. 5. You will now need your Windows Vista or 7 Installation DVD. Put the DVD in your computer's DVD drive. Open up My Computer and note which drive letter is assigned to your DVD Drive and your USB flash drive. 6. Go back to the command prompt window and type in D: CD BOOT (substitute your DVD drive letter for "D:", if necessary) and press Enter. Type CD BOOT again and press Enter. Lastly, type BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 H: (substitute your USB flash drive letter for "H:", if necessary) and press Enter. 7. The last step is to copy the entire contents of the Windows DVD to your USB flash drive. To do this, in the My Computer window (opened in step 5 above), right-click on the DVD drive and select Open to view the contents of the DVD. Copy all the files and folders on the DVD to the USB flash drive. Your USB flash drive is now set up to be a bootable USB drive for Windows Vista or 7. How to or can boot from CD or DVD Good luck.

Compaq presario cq60 screen been

Could be a loose cable. Over time with the openning and closing of the cover the video cable is moving and in a few cases can become loose or pinched. If it is pinched it may need to be replaced. If it is just loose then it is fairly simple to remove the plastic piece above the keyboard and reset the video cable. Sometimes there are screws holding it in place but usually that piece is just snapped in place.

I have a Compaq Presario

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.
