GE PVM2070SMSS Microwave, Unit runs for a sec then shuts off.

This started recently and part of me wonders if its the wiring in my kitchen, but what happens is I hit start, the unit starts to run and the exhaust flap open, then I hear a click (Is that the magnetron kicking on?) then the screen flickers or goes black and the unit shuts off. Sometimes after repeatedly hitting start, I can get it to run, but not often. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Obvious thing is to try plugging in a different receptacle to verify if it might be bad wiring in your kitchen. Make sure to use a different circuit, maybe in different room. If it is the circuit, then likely cause is those plugs with push in back wiring. Replace with ones that wire screws to.

Ge pvm2070smss shuts down

It may be a noisy magnetron if the failure occurs in a second or two of hitting "Start" to begin cooking.

See this FixYa solution. even though your model number is different.

Otherwise, if the internal cooling fan is not running when you are cooking, it will shut down after 30-60 seconds or so and stay off until it cools back down.

Ge spacemaker model # jvm16505ho1 won't stay running

I have the same problem. It was/is a wiring issue behind the key pad. I unplugged the microwave and took the vent and key pad covers off - heed all warnings. Using leather gloves and needle-noze pliers, I removed the wire ties and reposition the wires. I also checked the plastic connectors for looseness. It's currently working, but for how long who knows. Mine is 3+ years old. I will never by another GE product.

I suggest you don't tackle yourself as the capacitor can hold thousands of volts even w/ the unit unplugged. Be careful.
