Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

How to Buy Appliance Parts Online

If you are having problems with your appliance and need to buy parts, where do you go to find them and how is the best way to go about purchasing the parts that you need.

The best way that I have found to buy appliance parts online is to just do a search for “appliance parts”. When you do that you will have a large number of different websites come up from your search.

You will then need to have the model number of your appliance handy. The make will usually be identified by the model number so just the model is usually sufficient. Sometimes a model number will not work in one site, so try a different site.

When the parts page comes up you usually will have access to “exploded diagrams” which will help you to identify the part that you need. The pictures on some of the sites are better then others, so look around till you find what you need.

Once you know what you need, check out another site or two, or three. The price you get from one may be quite different from another. Also just because site A had the best price for one part, it may not have the best price for the next part you need. It seems that the different sites will use some parts to get you to buy and then soak you for another part.
Always compare prices with a number of sites to ensure the best pricing.

You can opt for faster shipping at most sites if you are willing to pay the extra costs. Most sites have warehouses in different parts of the country and can get the parts to you in a day or two, even with the regular shipping options.

How to Buy Appliance Parts Online

need to buy drain pump

I have found searspartsdirect.com to be the best source for purchasing parts. Just type in your model number and the pump will be located under the "Pump and Motor" heading as item number 10 (part #8181684). The Sears website also has helpful exploded view illustrations that you can use for troubleshooting and component identification. For comparative pricing, repairclinic.com also carries many of the same parts. Use the part number provided by Sears for your search. This is the easiest way I know of to order parts and have them shipped directly to you. This generally isn't a standard part that an appliance repair retailer would carry in their inventory, I hope this helps answer your questions. If you need assistance in installing the replacment pump, go to my profile and look under my "Tips and Tricks section. I have a write up on step-by-step instructions for replacing a pump on a Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite front loader.

Are LG appliances any good ?

LG is like any other manufacturer -- they have some really good products, they have some mediocre products, and then they have some that should have been put through the wringer a few more times before they were put on the market... and as with other manufacturers, they are sometimes plagued by problem workers, problem parts suppliers, and other issues that sometimes just pop out of the woodwork...  I think the best bet is to find what you are looking for and if considering buying it, do your homework on the particular model and brand -- compare with similar appliances -- note:  in many cases, brands are just labels put on by a manufacturer... made by same company, same location, same people, just a different label.. check consumers reports, research on the internet... talk to independent repair people...  and then figure out if you want the extended warranty (read insurance -- I never buy, but sometimes it may be worth it)...  anyway, best of luck in your purchase..
