Hello,

What I am going to say may not be relevant to your case, but a scanner needs to scan to some image format( a default format or one you select. So you computer needs to have some kind of imaging software installed.

Apparently, the only kind of imaging software the scanner detects is Windows Paint.

If this is really the case, go to the Internet and download some free imaging software: IRFANVIEW, or The Gimp.

Hope it helps

My HP PSC printer will not scan on my pc with,

Probably a driver problem. The solution for Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows is to go to the HP website and download the driver for the printer. For Windows Vista there is no driver that enables scanning. The workaround is to open Paint, select:
All Programs-->Accessories-->Paint
To import the scanned image, select:
File-->From Scanner or Printer
In the Select Device window, select your printer and click OK. In the Scan Using HP..... window, select a color option and click Scan. Wait for the image to be scanned into Paint. Then you can manipulate the image using Paint or save it.

HOW DO YOU SCAN?

You need some sort of photo editing program such as MS Paint or Paint Shop or any other imaging software. Open the program and click on Import. It will ask you which device or which TWAIN device you'd like to import from. Click on your scanner and you should be able to start scanning.
