Windows won't load. It keeps going to the page where you have to decide either to load in Safe Mode or to to last configuration or to load it normally.  When I hit any option it reboots and goes through  the process all over again and lands back on that page without loading. The DVD drives don't work so I can't go into the windows on a disc.   Any suggestions?

My hp pavilion a820n computer will turn on but won't start up

As the computer is starting up keep hitting F8 until you come to the boot options screen. Once in the boot options select "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if it will start. If it still will not start then try and see if the computer will boot in safe mode (Do the F8 thing again until you reach the boot options screen again and click on "Safe Mode").
If it will not load into safe mode then you may need a Windows O/S Reinstall.

Error loading operating system while system restart. The Laptop was working fine until last week.

AS YOU ON THE SYSTEM AND EVEN BEFORE WINDOWS STARTS KEEP PRESSING THE F8 KEY CONTINUEOUSLY. A MENU WILL APPEAR. SELECT SAFE MODE AND ENTER. WINDOWS WILL LOAD IN SAFE MODE. THIS WILL SOLVE SOME OF YOUR PROBLEMS. NOW RESTART THE SYSTEM IN NORMAL MODE.

IF THIS DOES NOT WORK SELECT "LOAD WINDOWS WITH LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION " AND THEN RESTART. THIS WILL SURELY SORT OUT YOUR PROBLEM.

PLS REPLY OR COMMENT. THANKS

MY LAPTOP WENT OFF DURING UPDATES NOW IT WONT FINISH LOADING, it comes up update 3 of 3 then restarts and says same again keeps doing it not letting me in to lap top anymore seems stuck on updates

Hold F8 while booting to go into safe mode, or last known good configuration. Then, preform the update from there, and that should fix your problem.

After loading the laptop, the screen goes black showing only a white mouse cursor that you are able to move. Even tried loading in safe modes but the page still doesn't load.

Please restart the computer in safe mode and check if that is loading. If safe mode loads well, then run system restore (Steps depend on the windows version you have) and restore your computer to a earlier date (say 1 or 2 days earlier) when you know that your computer was working fine.

If you cannot login to safe mode then we might have to do a manual registry restore
Please use the link to know more about it. If you are going to use the step, please keep a printout handy of the instructions.

For XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
(follow the manual steps)

For Vista & Windows 7
Boot from OS DVD and run startup repair.

When i turn it my eee pc on it pops up to where it says windows and thats as far as it will but it will only load up in safe mode

Try restarting your notebook and hit the "f8" key after you see the first screen come up. Keep hitting the F8 key until you see a menu that says "start in safe mode" start in safe mode with networking......
Start in last known good configuration....Start windows normally.

Try using Start in last known good configuration.

Hopefully, that will solve the problem that is hanging up your windows from starting.

Answer:To load the last known good configuration in Windows 2000 / XP reboot the computer and as it's booting booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Advanced Options menu - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message as the computer is booting. If this occurs instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key" tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode
Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
As can be seen from the above example, you should be able to highlight and press enter to load the last known good configuration. Once completed the computer should restart and attempt to load into Windows.
Will running the Last Known Good Configuration delete anything?
No, running the last known good configuration will restore your last good system settings and will not delete anything. The only thing you may have to reinstall programs you have recently installed because the configuration for those programs may have been lost.

Boot-up

dot.gif How to load last known good configuration. Question: How to load last known good configuration.
Additional information: The "Last Known Good Configuration" option was first introduced in Microsoft Windows 2000 and is available in all later versions of Windows including Windows XP. This feature enables a user to load the last working version of Microsoft Windows. This is a great step to try when trying to fix issues with a computer not being able to load into Windows.
Note: Users able to open normal Windows XP mode and who wish to restore their version of Windows to an date before the last known good configuration may also wish to consider doing a system recovery in Windows. Additional information about how to do this can be found on document CH000589.
