Alarm light is on and the power light is off on my Westinghouse FJ383. Fan is still working but not cold enough

  • Anonymous Sep 29, 2008

Hi, we have just bought a second hand westinghouse 380L FJ383 freestyle freezer, when it was delivered they had it laying down in the back of a van on friday afternoon. They said it would be alright if we left it for around 3 hours which we did. We then plugged it in and it started running and was cooling well. the next day Sat, we put our meat in it...quite a bit of meat. and it seemed like it shut down and did not seem to be cold enough. After a few hours it started freezing the meat in the top half of the freezer and by Monday morning still only the top half of the freezer was frozen and the bottom half was not. The power and alarm lights were both on at this stage and the motor was very very hot....we did turn the cooling dial to high. Is this the reason for the hot motor and meat not freezing correctly or does it just take time...or was it because they had it laying down on delivery which took aprox 1.5 hours? your help would be great :) thank kelly

I have the same prob, the alarm light is on and the power light is off, the fan is still blowing cool air but it seems like the food on the top shelf is starting to defrost, I tried the turn off trick and left it off for 5 min but that didnt work can anyone offer any other help other than turn it off for 30 secs?? the freezer is full and its the middle of the easter break so the odds of getting a repair guy out is pretty slim

I have a Westinghouse upright freezer FJ383M-R. The red light was on bright and the top half of freezer was not working. Turns out it was a switch that turns the defrost cycle on was faulty. Serveman replaced borken part. Now it is fine. Was much cheaper than replacing freezer.

Don’t buy a Westinghouse Freestyle Freezer ..., you will end up losing your frozen goods. It’s just not worth the risk. I lost everything and it was full of expensive meat ... easier to steer clear of Westinghouse than take a risk

For Westinghouse fj383 freezer where is the defrost timer located

The defrost timer in a Westinghouse fj383 freezer is typically located at the back of the unit, near the compressor. It may be behind a cover or housing that needs to be removed in order to access the timer. If you're unsure about locating the defrost timer or don't feel comfortable working on your freezer, it's best to consult the user manual or contact a professional technician for assistance.

My Westinghouse Freestyle Freezer FJ383 wobbles on the floor. How do I fix?

There are feet on each coner that can be turned to make them go up or down. you may need a person to slightly lift or tilt the unit and a pair of strong pliers to get the feet turning.

Westinghouse fj383

ne of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food. You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them

My freezer has a different code number;ZFT710FW.I put quite a lot of food into the freezer yesterday and the alarm now keeps sounding,I have put the temperature up but the red light is still flashing...

Red Alarm Indicator Light
Under normal operating conditions, the internal temperature of the freezer will ensure the long-term conservation of the stored food. When such temperature rises above a certain level (-12 °C), the appliance will trigger an acoustic and light alarm. The light alarm is a blink red light (Red Alarm Indicator Light), while the acoustic alarm is an intermittent sound.
You can stop the acoustic alarm by pressing the Acoustic Signal Stop Switch once.

When switching on the freezer for the first time, the Red Alarm Indicator Light will blink until the internal temperature has reached a level required for the safe conservation of frozen food.

Fast Freeze function
If more than 3-4 kg of food is to be frozen:
1. Press the Fast Freeze Switch for 2-3 seconds to activate the fast-freeze function 6-24 hours before placing the fresh food in the freezer, the Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator Light will illuminate. The compressor will now run continuously, to ensure that the fresh food is frozen as quickly as possible.
2. It is possible to deactivate the function at any time by pressing the Fast Freeze Switch for 2-3 seconds.
3. Place the foods in the freezing compartments (indicated with graphics).
4. Once the food is completely frozen (it may take up to 24 hours) you can manually switch off the fastfreeze function by pressing the Fast Freeze Switch for 2- 3 seconds and the Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator light will also go out.
5. Move frozen food from the freezing compartments into the other compartments (storing compartments) to make room for another freezing.

If the Fast Freeze Switch is accidentally left on, the fast-freeze function will be automatically switched off 48 hours later. The Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator light will also go out.

I believe that you all understand. If you intend to freeze larger amount of food then certainly a few hours before some shopping switch on the fast freeze function.

Kenmore top mount refrigerator bought new in august 2010 - kept in a heated garage. have not had to use the freezer compartment up until now. we put meat in it and the meat got cool but did not freeze. ...

The refrigerator compartment thermostat may be the culprit. If you can remove it, you can check its calibration with iced water. Make sure you check the fan motor and the fan blade condition.

Temp Alarm going off, when freezer seems to be cooling fine.

You need to check the temp in the freezer to make sure it's down to around 10 degrees. The alarm will go off much above that.

My ice cream won't stay frozen in my freezer.

Hi: Meat and other frozen foods will be rock solid at 32degrees. Ice cream will be soft it needs 0degrees to be hard. It sounds like your freezer is above 0 degrees. You tried the adjustments. Make sure the coils on the bottom are clean. They will warm a ref if they are dirty. A coil brush from the hardware store or a air compressor (plan on dusting the house when done. Just vaccuuming the front isn't enough. That's an older model but one of the controls affects both the freezer and fresh food. When it's running turn one down; if it turns off the compressor it affects both. The other control is just an air balance, to direct how much air gets to each compartment. I hope this helps, Jeff
