video states you have to format the usb memory stick to fat32
right click on drive for usb memory stick and select format and change file system to fat32.
Video also shows replacing hard drive this would be a extreme case and you would loose all your settings ,games downloaded , ect

Is there sound? If so, then maybe your video settings got mixed up. Try the video reset.
When the PS3 is in standby mode (red LED lit), hold the Power "button" until it beeps for booting, keep holding until it beeps again (not to turn it off).
If done correctly you should see something again (480p resolution) allowing you to change settings.
I hope this will help you out.

SOURCE: Ps3 System Update Failed, PS3 boots with error code 8002F14E.
-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
-When the
update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an
error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again.
Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for
about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your
Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. If you do not get this msg after 30 seconds, do it again until it does! Now, slide your HDD into place
again - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen.

As long as it is still in the downloading stage and not the installing stage then you can safely power down your PS3. Sometimes this happens if the server you are trying to download from is having issues... your best bet is to try again later.
SOURCE: carried out an update, but now stuck in loop
Procedure for Entering Safe mode when PS3 is caught in
update loop:
When you first turn on the PS3, it will not allow you to go
into Safe mode. You must prepare it for
this.
link for flash drive prep:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3/pc_update.html#update_PC
(This will not work for the drive that currently is caught
in the update loop. You must take the
hard drive out of the PS3 and temporarily replace it with another 2.5” SATA
drive. Note: temp drive may need to be initialized…
Connect drive to pc, right click on My Computer and select Manage… Then select
disk Management… you will then be presented with a dialogue box that will
assist in initializing the disk.. However, only initialize it… Do Not Format
it!(waste of time) Once the disk is
initialized disconnect it from external enclosure or shut down computer and
remove disk)
