On the playstation 3 site error code tool says this code is an issue updating the PS3 sytem software. Try to start with the hard drive uninstalled then try again installed. If that dont help i would format the hard drive in a laptop and see if it helps. worst casr scenario you could dissasemble the PS3 and unplug tha battery on the main board and see if that helps. Good Luck

My ps3 has error 80710723 and says it needs to update. when i try to update it i get the error and cannot connect to the network.

Download the update from your PC save it on a usb flash drive. On the flash drive create a folder and name it PS3 and inside of that folder make a folder and name it UPDATE. Save the download into the file that you named UPDATE make sure you name the downloaded file PS3UPDAT.PUP.
Put the usb into a usb port on your PS3 and goto system update and do the update via storage. Make sure the files and the downloaded contene named files are all in upper caps.

HI, check the version of your update. You might be using the wrong updating software to update or the update was interrupted.
Make sure that you are using the right software update.

Take care.

PS3 may have been doing an update of some kind and you have interrupted it and damaged the system software.
You might be able to download the system software and install it back back it will most likely wipe everything saved on your ps3.
Not sure how to do this as I have never turned off the power during an update ?
Found this site not sure if it will help
as it does not explain how to install the software onto a ps3
https://www.playstation.com/en-au/get-help/ps3-system-software/

but this you tube video explains how to do it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5OIZ73U7v0

Also you could have instead interrupted a need for speed update. It needs to update to play in network mode .

Did you try uninstalling the last batch of updates?
To see the updates under "Add or Remove Programs", you'll need to check the appropriate box at the top.
If uninstalling does not help, you may have to start over.

Possible approaches to avoid the same issue when starting over:
  • Don't use SP3, unless you know that you *need* it. Check Wikipedia to decide whether you need it.
  • Install OS with SP2 and all updates, only then apply SP3.
  • Don't install all updates at once. Install them in batches of, say, 10 a batch. If the same thing happens, you know which batch was responsible.

Ps3 System Update Failed, PS3 boots with error code 8002F14E.

-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
-When the update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again. Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. If you do not get this msg after 30 seconds, do it again until it does! Now, slide your HDD into place again - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen.

That's the best way to do over your PC to your USB. Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data.
Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”.
  • Download the update data and save it in the UPDATE folder created in step 1. Select here to start the download.
Notice
Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3™ system will not recognize the update data.
  • Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder
  • File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”.
    Update procedure
Notices
  • Do not turn off the PS3™ system or remove the storage media or USB device during an update. If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange.
  • The power button on the PS3™ system front is not active during an update.
  1. Insert the storage media or USB device that contains the update data in the PS3™ system.
  2. From the home menu, select (Settings) > (System Update), and then press the button
The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.
  • Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder
  • File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”.

  3. Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the button.

The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

  4. Start the update data.

Press the button to start the update data. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

  5. Confirm that the update was successful.
After the update has been completed, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information]. If the System Software field displays the version number of the update, the update was successful.
Hint
You can delete the update data from the storage media or USB device after the update has been successfully completed.
