David Logan- That is NOT how the Neptune unit opens. First you have to remove the control panel by removing the 4 hex head screws from the back of the control panel, then move the panel out of the way carefully as there are wires connected on the left side. Then remove 4 or 5 screws across the top of the front panel. Now you can lift the front panel up and forward. Be careful as there is another yellow wire connected on the right side. Now you have access to the guts of the dryer.

SOURCE: Replacing belt on dryer

FIRST, OPEN THE DOOR AND REMOVE TWO PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS ON EACH SIDE OF THE OPENING. TWO GO THROUGH THE HINGES, AND TWO ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE OPENING. THEN, PULL THE OUTER PANEL FORWARD FROM THE SIDES NEAR THE TOP. IT IS HINGED AT THE BOTTOM. LIFT IT OFF THE HINGE WHEN YOU HAVE THE TOP EDGE PULLED FORWARD. YOU WILL HAVE ABOUT SIX OR EIGHT 5/16 HEX HEAD SCREWS TO REMOVE
AND THE FRONT BULKHEAD WILL THEN COME FORWARD TO REMOVE. AT THIS POINT, THE FRONT OF THE DRUM IS EXPOSED AND YOU CAN SLIP THE NEW BELT ON FROM THE FRONT. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DIAGRAM ON THE BAG FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT AROUND THE IDLER AND MOTOR PULLEYS. IT WILL BE EASIER TO INSTALL THE BELT IF YOU LAY IT IN THE GROOVE NEAR THE REAR OF THE DRUM, BUT THAT IS NOT IT'S FINAL RESTING PLACE.
AFTER YOU HAVE THE BELT AROUND THE PULLEYS, REPLACE THE FRONT BULKHEAD WITH FOUR SCREWS, ONE FOR EACH CORNER. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T FOLD OVER THE FELT SEAL AROUND THE FAN HOUSING. SLIDE THE LINT DUCT PORT INSIDE THE FELT SEAL. ONCE THE BULKHEAD IS IN PLACE, PULL THE BELT OUT OF THE GROOVE AND SLIDE IT TOWARD YOU UNTIL IT LAYS ON TOP OF THE MARKS THAT THE OLD BELT LEFT BEHIND.
ROTATE THE DRUM MANUALLY COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO BE SURE THE BELT IS ALIGNED AROUND THE DRUM.
IF IT IS NOT, THE BELT WON'T STAY ON THE PULLEYS.
AFTER YOU ARE SURE IT IS O.K., REASSEMBLE THE REST OF THE DRYER IN REVERSE ORDER.

SOURCE: change rollers on a Maytag Neptune Dryer

You have to work from the front. Pull the top then the front then you will be able to see everything. Pretty self explanatory.

SOURCE: Maytag MDG3000AWW drum moving slowly

If the belt looks worn you should replace it. But it sounds like the idler pulley has gone out of position or possibly broken. The idler pulley adds tension to the belt and keeps it from spinning on the drum surface. Check the path of the belt on the bottom of the dryer. That is where the idler pulley is.

SOURCE: Problem with upper cabinent of Maytag Drying Center.

Mine did same thing within warranty. There is a motherboard problem in them that is cause by power surge during an eletrical storm. First try unplugging for 10 minutes and see if it resets. If that doesn't work, you need to have the motherboard replaced that runs the unit.

Repair man took the front off my unit and replaced entire motherboard. He stated that it was a known issue with that motherboard. I have had no problems since my motherboard was replaced 18 months ago.

Email me a response to [email protected] and I will be more than happy to provide you with parts breakdown illustrations and possible part numbers and locations to replace. The service amount verses the do-it yourself amount will be well worth the savings. Typical labor cost on appliances are 75.00 per hour and a mark up on the parts. If you feel you can do it yourself after getting the photos e-mailed to you, it will save you approx 200.00 if not a lil less or a lil more.

Please rate this solution "fix-ya" if it seems to satisfy your question.

Maytag neptune drying center has no power mcg8000aww

Could be a bad thermal fuse, a bad drum belt, a door switch a loose wire , one of the computer boards or the user interphase. Time to call a qualified technician. This machine is a complex machine to disassemble and diagnose and if reassembled wrong could prove to be dangerous to operate.

Why does my Neptune moder number mce8000ayw dryer not tumble?

If the motor runs, but the drum doesn't rotate, check the belt, part # 341241. It's probably broken and off of the drum.

Hello, my maytag neptune dryer is making a loud noise while drying. when i turn it off, and turn the drum, i hear a chaffing noise on the left side. i tried to pry the top off, however it doesnt seem to...

Steven your neptune dryer has bearing problems - thats the chaffing noise you hear on the left side - your drum is running off centre , probably pulled that side by the action of the drive belt . Remove back of machine and check out from there . disconnect all power before and during inspection . you may be able to replace bearings on that dryer if you have the tools to do so .

Dryer can't turn on. Start button just buzzes.

replace the "Broken-Belt" switch by the drum motor, when the belt breaks it shuts off the heating element so as not to burn the clothes because the drum can't turn to produce air flow to dry the clothes as they tumble, when you replace the belt it will make the switch close the circuit again and it will start

My maytag neptune gas dryer model #MDG3000AWW When I push the start button on my maytag neptune dryer it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't and then it gets this smell like something is burning?...

It sounds like the drum bearings are seizing up preventing the drum from rolling easily, and when the motor runs, it can't pull the drum belt around the drum that won't turn, so starts squealing and burning the belt.

You need to lubricate/replace the drum bearings, and replace the belt.

We have a maytag neptune dryer md-6 and the dryer squeeks and squeels while drying close. Do I need to replace the belt or the drum wheels? Are all three?

i would replace the belt usually over time the belt streaches due to the weight of the clothes. the screaching ou are hearing is probably the belt going aound the drum instead of turning the drum.
