Went to system setup was locked new disk format. Using MEMOREX DVD+RW 4X 4.7GB? It records fine on DVD-R John
(-) R is the industry standard, (+) R is Sony standard, suggest you stick with (-)
SOURCE: Trouble with DVD+RW Disks being compatiable or staying formatted
cos they are cheap - get some decent branded discs such as TDK or tayo yuden and it should be fine
Also check the manual and or requirements on there website and it should show which are the best discs to use for that player but TDK or tayo yuden should be fine.
www.svp.co.uk or any where you can buy discs from should be fine
SOURCE: DVD Recorder Does Not Record
Yes, I agree. Dust on the lense will create this error as it did on mine. However, to save you a lot of tech fees or difficulty in dismantling the machine, just buy a can of AIR or Duster, etc. Open the DVD slide and "unplug" the unit from the wall. This will leave the door open. Lightly push the carrier back about halfway. Use a flashlight to look into the DVD and find the center area. Place the plastic tube on the air can in this area and blow it clean. Don't scrape or touch any of the mechanisms inside for safety. Plug it in and it should work if it is dust. This of course does mean that it will likely do it again and could use a 'good' cleaning as suggested above. But it is an easy quick fix. And if you are like me, I won't use it again for another six months.
SOURCE: I own a Hitachi DZ-GX5100SW,
This looks as if it needs a clear or new disk each recording
will not record on a disk with existing data on it.
The manual should explain this,

HI,
You can try cleaning the dvd lens with a commercialy available cd/dvd cleaner.
SOURCE: Trying to write to blank
Some DVD recorders cannot write CD-RW - only DVD-RW (+ and -) as well as DVD-R (+ and -) (this depends on the brand/model). This unit probably does not support CD recording. Try using DVD-RW instead for this machine - see if it records that (do not finalise even if unit prompts you to with an on-screen message prior to ejecting disc).
There are DVD players and recorders which can play CD-RW (mp3, jpegs etc.) but I don't know of any which record this format (a PC CD/DVD-ROM drive can do this though).
Testimonial: "This was the correct solution. I bought the wrong disc pack. I should have been using DVD-RW disc."
