Panasonic PV-20DF64 20 inch TV/DVD Combo TV can not read disc
My daughter put two discs into the dvd player at once. Now when I insert a dvd, it displays "reading," then displays "this type of disc cannot be played, please insert a different disc."
Re: Panasonic PV-20DF64 20 inch TV/DVD Combo TV can not...
If the disc loads up and you can hear it spin, then you get the error, more than likely the optical lens has been damaged. This will have to be repaired by a local shop if its worth the cost. if the part is available it would probably run anywhere from 130-165 to repair

Tries wash all ur DVD Disc with dishing soap to clean out all the smushes, grims, oil from the finger prints,on the laser surface of the disc,it should play now.Not than u must take the tv aparts take some Q tips with some rubbing alcohol to clean the DVD laser eye it self.Long time DVD laser eye reader have contaminate from the air cause it not read discs.Especially house hold that smoke or live in dries heat states.
You may have to check the options for the player. Some DVD players cannot play formats other than regular DVDs. You can check the options to see if it can be put in a different mode from the normal one, such as progressive scan, which can help it to read DVDs better in some ways. You can also set it up to accept more types than just DVDs, but also DVD-Rs and VCDs. I cannot tell you, without fiddling around with it, whether you will need to take it in to a shop, but that is an option. Once you see about adjusting some of the settings, see if it won't play a DVD.
Check and replace the laser pickup unit. It is faulty [Weak]. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If this happens when you insert a DVD disc then most likely the laser assembly is failing in the DVD drive. In most cases it will probably still play CD's. The part number needed is LSVQ0087 and isn't cheap as seen on the following ebay posting. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks.
