Have you tried other DVD's in this unit and they work? If so it might be just an incompatibility issue with that DVD in your TV.

There should be a closed caption button on your remote control. You will want to go into the CC settings and turn off the TEXT mode as that is whats causing the black box to appear. Please take a few moments to rate my answer.. Thanks..

Some remotes, such as the Sony RM-VL600, have a learning function that will "learn" the code for your set. I used one for my combo unit, and it worked OK for the TV functions, but I couldn't get it to work for the DVD player.

The most common problem would be a bad solder joint on the vertical drive IC. It could also be a bad solder joint on the flyback transformer, as it supplies voltage to the vert. stages. If you disassemble the set, please be careful not to get shocked. Discharge the high voltage stages as a precaution.

It sounds to me without knowing the model or type unit that you may need to unplug tv AND take batteries out of remote for a few seconds, replug and start over. Hope it helps

I have an identical national tc 300 sp 3-in-1 unit. The power input for this set will automatically accept 120-220-240 VOLTS AC. The ac power pins in the 6-pin socket are the two horizontal pins immediately underneath the locating spiggot in the socket.
