??? what does a power supply failure on a tv look like ???


none of the buttons light up , nothing lights up no bars or stripes on screen , nothing !! cord is plugged into a power outlet and is on , but nothing no lights no sound (sometimes a high pitch squeal is heard )

    I sorry to say but nowdays if it even has a fuse (not many do) they usually are less expensive to replace than to repair (takes less than hour to replace pwr supply , but takes hours to figure out what parts broke inside it )

I'm going to second the power supply board failure. This is a common problem. You could likely purchase another on ebay. Search by the TV model number.

Switching Off your TV in standby mode & power failure
When there is power failure, immediately switch off the switch supplying power to your TV. After restoration of power, there are incoming surges on the line which can damage your TV. The tv will not turn on anymore and we don't know why??
Hi Tom,
If the tv does not turn on, it is a simple case of power supply (inside the tv) failure. Open the back cover if you can, check for blown fuse and replace it, if found blown. If the tv works, very good. If the fuse blows again, consult the repair man.

Light is blinking after power failure
If the light is blinking and the TV wont start up, chances are that the power supply got spiked when the power came back on...look for blown components on the power supply board, or buy a new power supply board.

WARNING: be careful, messing inside TV's can KILL! If your not sure what your doing, Pay some one that does!

Blinking powerlight on front when i try to turn on tv
This is more likely a power supply failure. Most causes of tv failure are due to bad capacitors on either a system board or the power supply. In this case, it sounds like the power supply. You can test the capacitors with a capacitor tester to determine faulty capacitor. You can also test other components like power supply current with voltmeter or mulit-tester.

The tv will not turn on by remote or manually.... the small red light on front is just blinking.red.
If the TV fails to power ON, in about 90% of the time is due to a power supply failure. If you intend to DIY, I would suggest to visually inspect the capacitors in the power supply. Replacing them should correct the failure with the TV.

Tv does not turn on
When you are technically Qualified only then you shoul solve this problem. because this problem may be because of power supply. Ok you must check power output on diode rectifier if it is ok then check the mains chord,which is directely connected to AC supply. And Then check the VC i.e. Volume Controle wire. your TV Set may be on Good Day Friend. And BE councious when you work with AC /DC Power supply or after opening the TV Set.

2 year old turned tv on/off several times - TV doesn't turn on
The main power supply is in the protect mode. Usually this is caused by the high voltage section, scan amplifiers, and or the main power supply failing. Many times, when there are failures in the scan amplifier output sections, the main power supply can also be damaged.

On rare occastions, the CRT electron-gun can have a short, and cause this type of failure condition.

An experienced TV tech should be able to service this for you.

Power failure
These TV's are prone to power supply failure. I can fix the power supply on this TV for approx $100 +s/h.... Contact me and all you have to do is remove the power supply and send it to me and I will repair it with high quality parts. Reinstall and you TV will be good as new...

Can't get tv to turn on
There may be a scan failure, and or a failure in the main power supply. The main power supply is in the protect mode due to the failure.

A TV service tech should be able to go through the set and determine the exact failure to service it.
