Our 100hp mercury outboard motor won't stop beeping. It's a beep, beep, beep, beep......sound. The oil tank is full and it beeps the same in the ON position and while running. Any ideas as to why?

Engine tank should be plumb full tight. The engine supplies about 2 lbs pressure through one of the 2 lines going to the boat tank. The other line takes the oil to the engine tank. If that line gets kinked or pinched, the engine tank won't get oil, a check valve lets a little air into it, and the oil pump keeps getting oil. When it goes down just a little, the alarm goes off telling you something is wrong.

Sludge in the boat tank could plug up the pickup screen. I've also seen them plugged up by a foil oil bottle seal carelessly dropped into the tank.

Once you find out why the oil couldn't get there, start the engine with the cowl off and loosen the cap on the engine oil tank until it leaks, then tighten it down and clean up the mess. That tank is normally plumb full tight.

If when the engine is running, you crack the cap on the boat tank, you should hear pressure let off. If the cap leaks, it won't build up pressure. If there is pressure, the oil line is plugged or kinked.

If pressure isn't supplied, the problem would be the crankcase check valve on the engine, lower forward starboard side, with the hose going to it.

The low oil sensor is not "seeing" the oil in the tank...(mine does this when I crank it,, the low oil light stays on).. It uses plenty of oil,,I quit worrying..- -don't feel like taking the oil system apart..
Get one of these.. I have one for every outboard I ever owned..they DO come in handy...

I usually do cars and trucks, but if you are getting an electronic beep, you might go online and refer to an engine Manual for what you own. You may have a low oil lockout for the crankcase on a 4 cycle or a low oil cutoff alert for a 2 cycle with an automatic oil feed mixer. Some transition of inboard-outboard technology to outboards can include tilt lockout so that you can not start up in gear. Most prevent the starter from turning, but could keep the engine from firing if they want to wire it that way. With the "beeps" it would seem to be a Code.

different beeps for different things. . .fast broken beeps over heated long steady beep water in gas long steady beep then broken beep low oil this is something you need to take to shop with don't risk trying to poor boy it

the alarm could also be for water in the bilge ( hole in the boat)

If it is 2-stroke engine check oil level and the oil level sensor.

when the engine is running there is a repeated 4 beep alarm every 5 to 10 min. i have talked to several repair shops and they are unsure of the problem. what is the proper solution to fixing this alarm?
