Amidst embroidering a towel the machine started making grinding noises and came to a stop. Lights flashed above #16 but was unable to get hand wheel to turn at all. Removed hoop to clean out bobbin case of dust and threads, added some oil to bobbin case. Shut off machine and removed unit again trying to move hand wheel. Replaced unit but hand wheel still not turning and error message on computer screen remains. What can I do to deactivate safety device and continue sewing
You can't--something is stopping the wheel from turning, and until you find out what is stopping it, your machine will be locked up. Take a look below the bobbin case, and you'll see a ***** holding a little door. It allows you to clean and see on the other side of the bobbin basket. Chances are, there's something like a broken off needle stopping the gear that turns the hook. It can also be caused by threads wrapped around the tension disks, or around the inside of the hand wheel itself. The hand wheel can be removed by removing the cap in the center--it is hiding a ***** that holds the wheel.
Make sure you're plugging the USB cable from the machine into a USB port in the BACK of your computer, not one of the front ports or a port on a USB hub. The cable and machine need more power than most of those ports provide, a technical detail that Singer doesn't realize. Good luck!
