A suggestion to try:
Remove all the thread from the machine.
Check for and clean out any thread pieces, lint, etc. in the bobbin area.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top thread--verify the thread path is correct.
Rethread and install the bobbin in the machine.
Retest the machine.
Sew for three seconds and it stops and beeps four
Some sewing machines are extremely finicky about the direction the thread feeds from the bobbin. I had one machine that didn't care which way the bobbin fed and another that would stop after 2-3 stitches and protest. You could try flipping the bobbin and see if that helps.

Be sure to change the needle often.Sounds like bird nesting.Remove the top thread from the machine.ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Knit stitch problem
I know this is easy to say, but make sure your machine is threaded properly. And try sewing a piece of knit fabric without the knit stitch. You can still sew seams etc this way if you very slightly stretch the fabric as you sew.
Adjust the timing
May I ask WHY you want to adjust the hook timing? What makes you think that you need to do so?
