What would cause a table saw to just stop working?

My old table saw finally won't start. Had prior problems with the on/off switch, which was resolved. To be sure that wasn't the problem again, I removed it and connected the wires (i.e. just plug it in to see if it would start). It won't start this way either. Did the motor go out or is the on/off switch somehow necessary? Or something else entirely?

Sound like the motor finally went to motor heaven. If you have an ohm meter do a continuity test of the motor. Should be a low ohm reading. If high or infinity, fogit it.

One last thought! - check the motor brushes !!!!!!!!!!!!! If no contact with commutator the motor will not not be energized.

In the process of testing the motor with an ohm meter, and bouncing the saw around upside down in the process, it miraculously started to work again. So just must have been a bunch of sawdust around the motor. A real cheap fix!

Why won't my 14 amp, 7 1/4 in circular saw turn on?

check for the safety switch that you have to press while pulling the start switch
both switches have to work in the on position or the motor will not run ( safety requirement)

I have an old B&D 8" panel saw (model 34803) that needs a new switch (part # 54483-00). Can't find one.

When switches on old table saws and panel saws fail, they can be replaced with handy box and ordinary wall switch.
That's what I did for my table saw last week, after I finally got tired of pluging and unplugging the cord every time.

sounds like the on/off switch is bad. replace the switch with a switch that is of the proper voltage and rating value. a good place to find a switch is at your local hardware/industrial tool store. ( also try and find a switch at a industrial tool repair shop ).

Go to searspartsdirect.com and put in your model number. Look at the motor and wiring section. Look at item 16. The motor overload protector. (probably your reset button) WIth saw unplugged, unwire one sid of this switch and test with an ohm meter. You should read through the switch. If it is open then that's why the saw doesn't work. Many of this type of oveload requires quite a push to reset as you're flexing a klixon disc back to make contact. If is open and you can't reset, it's available there although a bit high priced.

Saw stopped working mid-cut as if power loss. Blade turns freely, was no unusual odor. Reset button no help. No problems prior to that event. This is a Craftsman 10" table saw.

Could be the motor burned out. That shouln't happen and if it did craftsman is really good at replacing damaged tools. I'd return it for a replacement.

Table saw skilsaw model number 3400 15 amp

What you are describing sounds like the power is being interrupted somewhere. In my experience, this is usually casued by a bad switch. Try replacing the trigger switch.
