Lay the spring into the plastic safety cover, you will see a catch for one portion of the spring, the cover plate goes over it and there is a tab on it to catch the loose end and then the center plate which screws on to hold everything in place, check by turning the plate that holds it onto the saw for free movement. You can go to makitausa.com and in the header area on the right type in your model number ls1030n and you can download or look at a breakdown to see what I am talking about. Let me know if you need more assistance, just found your question.

How do I replace the compression spring on a Makita LS1030 saw? I have the older version with the straight handle, not the "D" handle.

Dear Leonard,

I see that the Makita LS1030 does have a different compression spring mount than the newer "D" handle models. There is a parts schematic of your saw with the straight handle at http://www.ereplacementparts.com/makita-ls1030-miter-saw-parts-c-97_98_99_322.html. Perhaps this will aid you in puzzling out the disassembly and repair of your compression spring. So you know, it appears that the primary compression spring for your exact model is now considered obsolete and is unavailable on most parts replacement websites.

If if your problem is just that the spring is weak, a local machine shop may be able to tell you if the spring can be re-stretched to return it to its new compression level.

Makita is known for their excellent customer service, and if you call the parts/repair division of the company (Contact info located on Makita website) the technicians may be able to not only coach you through the spring replacement process. You should also ask if the spring on a newer LS1030 series is interchangeable or if Makita themselves have any NOS springs for your saw in stock.

Good luck in your search,

Change blade Makita LS1030 10-Inch Compound Miter saw

There is an 8mm bolt on the front of the guard. Loosen/remove this and the central guard mount will drop slightly. Behind the metal guard is a slide lock for the blade spindle. Push the lock bar and turn the blade untill it catches and is held solid. Then remove the blade fixing bolt and bobs your uncle. Alternativly, with all mitre saws, you can just pop an old bit of wood on the work base and then use the spannrer/allen key supplied to turn the blade so it bites into the wood as if you are trying to cut it. This will hold the blade steady and you will also be turning the bolt in the right direction.

Could be dirty or worn brushes not making contact properly, if not it is the switch which needs to be replaced.

If you want to replace the plastic cover there is a screw towards the front of the saw that must be removed and then the bolt at the back loosened and the guard will pull off. If you need more info get back to me with the other questions and I will try and help

How do I install the spring after changing the blade on the Makita 10 miter saw

what spring? do you mean the one in the guard? if so you don;t have to remove it to change the blade, give me the exact model number or you can go to makitatools.com and download a breakdown that shows the reassembly of the guard, it is not that hard, and also you can download an owners manual that shows the proper blade replacement procedure.

Unable to lift the saw blade Makita Miter Saw

Look at the pivot point on the rear of the miter saw for the push/pull locking pin. The pin is there so you can lock the saw in the down position for easier carrying. To unlock the saw, simply pull the locking pin out (Makita calls this the "stopper pin"). Then you can use the saw and easily raise and lower it for cutting.

As you might find it helpful to have, I have included a link from the Makita web site for a free copy of the owners manual that you can print or save for future use and reference. It has some handy info on use and care of your saw.
