If the camera saves to a memory card try plugging that into your pc instead of going through the camera.

Connect JVC GR-D240ek to vista laptop

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A firewire to USB will not work. It has to be firewire to firewire. A JVC GR-D240ek uses 4-pin, IEEE 1394 compliant Digital Video Connector [DV OUT] to connect a 1394 cable (also known as a FireWire or i.Link cable) to a laptop equipped with an equivalent IEEE 1394 port. Please note that some laptops firewire port could either be 4 pins or 6 pins.

Soon as that connection as shown above is established, you can use Windows Import Video to capture / download the videos.

Other notes (from the same Windows Help link above) :
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Movie Maker. After you connect ... your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Movie Maker, turn on your DV camera, put it into playback mode, and Windows Import Video should open automatically.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Photo Gallery. After you connect ...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from Camera or Scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Live Photo Gallery. (This options requires you to install Windows Live on your computer.) After you connect your...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Live Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Live Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from a camera or scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
Verify that the laptop's firewire port is 100% up to specs and totally compliant to IEEE 1394.

God luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Error code 0x80010108 wont allow me to view pics

Hello,

This error is generally faced with Windows Live Photo Gallery when viewing pictures from external devices such as cameras or memory cards. There are different known causes to this error, among which, one is an installation problem of Windows Live, but the uninstalling and reinstalling does not seem to fix this issue.

However the solution is quite simple. You have to import your pictures from your device onto your computer through Windows Live Photo Gallery (you will have this option when device is connected in the autorun menu).

Once the pictures imported, you will be able to view them. Be careful to keep the original photos on your device in case this solution does not fix this issue.

If problem persists, I recommend opting for another picture viewer program.

Turn the Computer ON.

Make sure to Insert the Memory Stick in the Camera.

Set the USB CONNECT option in the Setup 2 Menu of the Camera to PTP. [Set the Mode dial of the Camera to Camera, press the Menu button, select SETUP-->SETUP2-->USB CONNECT-->PTP-->OK.]

Connect the Camera to the Computer using the supplied USB cable.

The Computer will automatically install the USB Driver for the Camera.

I HAVE A SONY DIGI CAM MODEL DSC W-5. MY PC IS NOW UPGRADED WITH WINDOWS VISTA AND SINCE THEN IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD THE PICTURE TO PC. THE INSTALLATION CD ISSUED WITH CAMERA DOES NOT COMPITABLE...

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Insert the recording media containing the pictures into the camera.
  3. Depending on your camera, set the USB Connection or Transfer mode setting in the menu to the Mass Storage , Normal , or PTP .
  4. Use the USB cable supplied with the camera to connect the camera to the computer. IMPORTANT:
    • Connection through a USB hub or other USB device -- such as a printer or keyboard -- is not supported and cannot be guaranteed. Connect the camera directly to a USB port on the computer.
    • If the USB connection from the camera is not recognized by the computer, disconnect the USB cable and repeat steps 4 and 5 using a different USB Connection or Transfer mode setting. If the connection is still not recognized, further troubleshooting is available.

    NOTES:
    • The computer will automatically install the USB driver for the camera.
    • When the camera connection is established, an AutoPlay window will appear.

  5. In the AutoPlay window, click Import pictures .
  6. In the Importing Pictures and Videos window, click the Import button. NOTE: After the pictures have been imported, the Windows Photo Gallery window will appear and display thumbnails of the imported images.
If this doesn't work there is an updated driver available
