Kristie,
I would suggest taking the brush bearings at each end off and clean any lint or hair that might be in the ends of the brush. If you have regular ball bearings on your brush, you might need to replace the brush roller if the bearings themselves are tight. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: brush roller on windtunnel won't spin

It sounds like you need to replace the actuator arm or the cable to it. Look for Hoover part 43143046 for a start. I've got a similar problem.

SOURCE: auto brush on hoover windtunnel doesn't spin anymore

I have a Windtunnel S3765 with the same problem - and it has very little use so I'm confident it isn't wear. I find that the wheels do not raise the agitator brush sufficiently high to reduce the drag caused by excessive contact with the carpet. If I raise the front a bit the brush spins as it should. It also works if I take the housing apart and use it without ..... but this is tricky.

Unfortunately I haven't figured out a way to hold it up efficiently. I am toying with afixing something to the bottom of the housing to raise the front enough to give the brush a little more room.

SOURCE: Brush won't spin on my Hoover Mach 5

I love this vacuum but had the same problem.

SOLUTION:
take the roller off and flip the thin belt inside out. This fixed my vac and works great again.

Why does my brush roller stop and heat up belts?

Hi! If you have replaced the belt with a new one and your brush-roll is still not spinning, your brush-roll may need to be replaced. Remove the brushroll and clear it of hair and debris. Spin the end caps with your hand. They should spin easily with no tension. Inspect the area on the brushroll where the belt rests on for damages. To order a replacement brushroll click on this link. Search Results It could also be that the incorrect belt is being used with the vacuum. Make sure you are using genuine Hoover parts when replacing the belt. Changed belt. have burning smell

Take it back apart, check it again. Check the plastic where the belt is running for burnt spots. Also check the brush roller sometimes the tension from a new belt can finish off what was left of the bearings and cause the plastic end caps and roller to melt. Pull out the roller and try to spin it while holding the end caps. If it doesn't spin or spins hard there's your smell. Most times when the rollers go bad they break the belt. Replace the roller if necessary Make sure the roller is in correctly and flush and that the bottom plate goes on easily.

Hoover canister vacuum (windtunnel)- turned it on and it had good suction, then smoke came out and it smells like something is burning. Is it the motor burning up or something else?

Probably the belt..
Turn it over so the bottom is facing up..
Remove the plate that surounds the brush..
Check to se if brush is spinning frely and that the belt is on there poroper

Replaced belts and brush roller will not rotate.

check to see if the spindle (small pencil-thin metal rod) is spinning where it projects from the motor. the belt wraps around this rod. if the rod is spinning when the vac is turned on your brush roller could be jammed. the bearing in the far sides of the brush roller frequently pick of long threads and hair and will stop the brush roller or the bearings sometimes overheat when worn and plastic will melt in this area causing stoppage.

Hoover Windtunnel

Sounds like you have a bad brush roll(48414115), take it out and see the the ends turn freely or not, if not, then replace it. Also check the the slots that the brush roll sits in to make sure they haven't melted. I am assuming that the motor is running, if not, then it may have froze up.

Hoover windtunnel u6634-900

I have the same problem. I believe, after some inspection, that the mechanism which allows for the circular spin of the brush has failed. Though I'm no mechanic, I believe my girlfriend's long (and beautiful) hair became entangled underneath the gray "end-cap" causing breakage of the rotating mechanism (which I believe is normally housed within the brush under the rectangular "end-cap"...the other "end-cap" piece is circular). Now the brush will spin about 6 rotations but with each spin the gray "end-cap" will extend on its screw rather than spinning freely. I believe my only option is to order another brush. We'll see if it solves the problem.
