Brand new gas oven. Converted it to LP, the stove top burners work fine. The oven shoots 3 inch flames inside...?

  • myeiland Jul 07, 2009

Yep I had to tunr the connectors around (it was one way for nattural and then you were to flip it around for LP) Something isn't tightend right though for that amount of gas to be pouring in.......The person who did the switch thinks I have a bad part and may need to get another from the manufacturer! It's brand new, I don't think so. I'm concerned that he is not quite sure of what he's doing....

Did you convert the oven to LP? Most ovens you have to screw down the gas nozzle in the oven. This will often be in the back of the oven or underneith. Read the conversion manual for your particular oven. It MAY not requir a new orifac like the stove top. Dave

You did not turn the brass adjustable orifice for the oven in or not in far enough. It is generally located right where the gas comes out of the safety valve, with a rectangular (about 3/4 x 3/4 air hole) by it about 4 inches before the burner. Usually, it takes a 1/2 inch open end wrench to turn in clockwise 3 full turns. (it's easier to do 12 one quarter turns or the wrench.)

Whirlpool WFG510S0AS2 range - stove burners work just fine, but both the oven and broiler does not stay lit. NOTE - this unit has been converted from natural gas to LP

when the lp conversion is done , it is normally just a jet size change that is done
however the air shroud has to also be adjusted to get a clean blue burn of the flame
The just jet change results in a slightly yellow flame which is incomplete burn of the gas and that creates carbon build up at the jet and burners causing partial blockage
I would suggest that you call in an accredited gas fitter to check the problem and if necessary , clean the jets and adjust the air shroud

Swithed to LP

Natural Gas has a pressure at about 1/4oz psi. Propane runs at a much higher pressure 8 psi to 15 psi. For your safety do not use the oven until it is garenteed that the oven is rated for LP Gas!
Hope, this helps, Sea Breeze

Converted a ge gas to lp. the oven and broiler has too much flame

You must close the gas valve orifice. There is a gas valve (silver or grey colored rectangular shaped piece which feeds the burner(s)) that has a brass or gold-colored hex nut. This nut (1/2 inch) needs to be tighten down clockwise to the stop point. This will regulate the flame.

Flames in oven are WAY too high! Having trouble lowering them.

Hi! melisrus
If you are using LP, even if you change the regulator settings from Natural Gas to LP Gas, the orifices all need to be changed. The Orifices should have come with the new unit, if not contact Hotpoint.

Make sure you order the instruruction manual and this is an Oven with Range Top, you will need orifices for all the burners on the range top.

Lp flames to top of oven

You need to tighten down the orifice spud for the bake burner. Remove drawer in bottom of oven. Look for bottom of burner tube, where the shutter adjustment is. Right below it is the orifice spud. Usually a goldish color. Take 1/2 inch open end wrench and tighten until it stops. Do-not overtighten! Try it now. If flames are still to high, tighten a little more. Repeat if needed.

Did you change the orifice in the regulator? The orifice opening for LP is a different diameter than the opening for Natural Gas. If you've already attempted changing the settings from Natural to LP, you may want to double check the orifice under the regulator cap, or...you may have a regulator problem. You will need to turn the gas off prior to attempting this. The regulator will be located in the back of the oven somewhere near where the gas line connects to the stove. There is a gas orifice that needs to be turned over to change gas settings. "LP" should be present if it is set correctly. Let me know if this helps.

Changed from natural gas to propane when new oven flames up the side top burners ok

Just bought a Kenmore and did this conversion myself. You do not change the oven nozzle (jets) but have to wrench it down with a 1/2" wrench as per instructions. After I did this the falme was high as you described. I wrenched it down further and adjusted the air shuttle and it was fine. The brioler is done the same. The wrench adjustment is tight so be aware.
