Why dryer won't tumble?

Took drum out, belt not broken, idler seems ok. When unit turned on before and would not spin, made humming noise like motor was trying to work, I was able to move drum slow, but it would not engage and take off. Once apart, I powered up and fan comes on fine and spins motor. Possible the belt is just warn?

SOURCE: power on but it won't spin.

You have a broken drive belt. To access the belt you have to remove the back metal cover.
The no heat problem could be a heating element or safety thermostat. These are also located under the back metal cover.

My tumble dryer is making a noise when on and drum is not turning

Either

-the drive belt has slipped off or snapped (revving motor noise)
-the belt tension spring has broken (revving motor noise)
-the motor start capacitor has failed (heavy hum noise)

My belt is broken on my tumble dryer.took it apart and don't know how to put the new belt on

The belt goes around the drum, through the idler pulley onto the pulley on the motor. The idler fastens into several holes on the floor of the dryer.

Dryer is heating but drum is not turning. What is the problem?

I would say belt is broken, if you turn the drum by hand and it spins freely then that is the problem, here is a website that will help:

Dryer drum will not spin. motor hums when button

either the belt is broken that turns the motor or thr idler tension pulley is bad, if it were a motor problem the breaker most likely will trip

Dryer hums without spinning. Held door switch and started drum spinning while pressing start. Dryer ran for a couple seconds then thermal overload kicked in and shut power off. Really hot smell came...

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the idler arm pulley or motor.
If you have to replace/reinstall your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical box that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good luck,
I hope this helps

Dryer wont spin

If dryer does not spin it is usually a problem with the belt or the motor. Check also door switch.

See also following indications from Repairclinic:

It won't tumble If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:

Belt
Motor
Door switch
Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Clothes dryer

dryer won't run, but hot air blow and humming when turned on
Belt is off, idler is off or broken. Replace the belt and idler. Make sure it is installed correctly with tension on the belt. It will take care of your problem

When I try and start my ge dbb3300eaoww dryer it buzzes as if it wants to start if I spin it with my hand it will work. I put a new belt on it and it does the same thing.
Motor start switch is bad. This is typically replaceable with out replacing the motor.
Will take care of the problem.

My drum will sometimes stop turning in the middle of a cycle, and the motor just hums. I pause the dryer, open the door, rotate the drum, unplug and plug the electrical, and then it will usually complete the cycle. Does that mean the belt is "occasionally" slipping? How do I check this?
Replace the belt. It has stretched to the point it no longer can carry the load. Should consider replacing the idler at the same time. This will take care of the problem.
