Use TV as external monitor from laptop

I want to connect this laptop to a Tube TV to mirror the monitor. The TV has RCA and YPbPr inputs only. No S-Video, no HDMI. My Laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4530 Video card (Does this card have TV Out?/capable of displaying on a TV).

Outputs are HDMI or VGA. I have a cable that has a VGA plug on one end and RCA on the other I have tried everything I can think of to get it connected. I also have a cable with HDMI one end and RCA the other, but this cable cannot be used for HDMI input (can't use it on the computer end only into a HDMI TV)

I have seen HDMI to YPbPr converter boxes on EBay but don't want to pay $50 to get this setup working.

Is there another way and would one of those HDMI to YPbPr converters work (COMPUTER VGA to HDMI CONVERTER YPbPr to TV)

I am using an hdmi to dvi cable for my 3rd monitor but it will black out the laptop display and it will not work either when it is connected.

No Audio on external device via VGA

Dear Paul,

VGA cables have no provision to carry audio signal - they only carry video signals.

In general, external monitors that also have speakers have RCA-type or miniplug-type audio inputs. In this case, you will need to use another audio cable to connect the phones output of your laptop to the input of your monitor, using a suitable cable.

If you provide us the model number of your laptop, as well as the one for your external monitor, we could try to find the info regarding the kind of audio cable needed to connect both.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Ibm thinkpad wont connect to LG TV

Lower the screen resolution to 720 dpi.

Another issue is the reference to RGB. Is it the 3 cable (YPBPR) or the standard 15 pin VGA? You may need a converter.

What cable do I need connect my Emerson EWL20D6 to my laptop?

This TV can't understand a laptop signal directly (for most laptops - there are some computers that have a TV out option). The EWL20D6 has S-video, component and composite video inputs. Your best picture will be to get a VGA (RGB) to Component Video (YPbPr) converter with a 3.5 mm to RCA L/R audio cable. See this page for some idea of the available converters: http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/video-converters/vga-rgb-hv-to-component-video/c10000-c11200-c11215-p1.html . The VGA to component video cable is meant for projectors that can interpret the RGB signal, not TVs.

If your laptop has an HDMI port, you will need a different type of converter.

Once you have the correct hardware, you will need to make sure that the external video port is active on your laptop. For some machines, you may need to enable this in the BIOS first (press Esc, F1, F2 or F10 (depending on the computer) on bootup to get to the BIOS - it may take a few tries to time it correctly). Then turn off the TV and computer before connecting the cables. Then turn on the TV and set it to the desired input before turning on the laptop. Then set the laptop to send the video signal to the external monitor. (On my Win7 laptop, I right-click on the Desktop and select Graphic Properties. Then set the desired display (laptop screen, external monitor, both) and click Apply. Then press OK when you see the confirmation box on the now active screen.)

The Emerson EWL20D6 was manufactured by Funai for the Emerson line. Thus the manual is available here: http://www.funai-corp.com/support/manuals.aspx . Manuals are listed in alphabetical order. (If you use the search function, leave off the brand name.) The direct link to the manual is: http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/EWL20D6.pdf .

I hope this helps.

How to connect my dell inspiron 1501 laptop to my hdtv. am using a vga cable with rca out, to connect to the tv. i have tried everything but none works. if this can work please sent me step by step...

1 - the cable you are trying to use will not work - the RCA inputs in your tv can't accept the signal coming from the VGA. To connect the laptop to a tv the tv must have an VGA input, nothing else will work.
2 - When you start the laptop with an external device (such as an external monitor or tv) attached and turned on, the image may appear on either the laptop's display or the external device.
Press to switch the video image between the display only, the external device only, or the display and the external device simultaneously.

Connect my laptop to tv with a sound

Your computer may have come with cables to do just that. If not, you have options:

For video, I would check your TV inputs to see if it has a VGA port, since that would be the easiest. You can also get VGA to RCA or S-Video converters online as well if your TV does not have a VGA port. Almost all TV's these days have RCA inputs.

For audio, you can get a headphone jack (3.5mm) to RCA converter.

If you can't find the converters at your local electronics store, just google VGA to RCA and headphone to RCA.

Once you have the necessary cables connected to your TV, your computer will recognize that it has been connected to an external video source. I'm not sure, but I think it is either key combination Fn+F6 or F7 to perform a monitor switch. You can also right-click on the desktop and select properties (or personalize in vista). Then switch to the settings tab (or Display settings in vista) and click on the alternate display.

Connect Laptop to TV

It depends on what kind of TV you have. If you have a flat-panel LCD or plasma TV, it may have a VGA connection already installed. If that is the case, all you need is a standard VGA cable to connect from your notebook to your TV.

If you have a TV without a VGA connection you will need a scan converter to convert your signal from VGA to RCA or composite video signal. These can be purchased online or from electronics stores like Radio Shack. You plug your VGA connection from the computer to the scan converter, then RCA or composite video cables from the converter to the TV.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
