If the pump housing is damaged, you cannot fix it. you will need to replace the entire pump in this case. the pump is a fixed object.

Whirlpool Cabrio won't drain or only intermittently with LD code

Sound like there were threads wrapped around the impeller shaft inside the pump. Matter of fact I just replaced a pump for a client cause a nickel had gotten inside the pump and got between the impeller and outer casing. The nickel punched a hole in the housing of the pump therefore causing a leak. Couldn't get just the housing. Had to get the whole pump.
But it sound like the drain pump is under a lot of strain and probably needs to be replaced. Strain from threads around the impeller shaft or something else. So the pump motor gets hot from stress and strain causing the coil to heat up and short out causing an electrical smell. I found used pumps very reasonable for this unit on ebay.

My washer is leaking from the white plastic housing right beside the motor. Is this an easy fix or will I just have to get a new washer?

if the white plastic part your speaking of is in front of the motor and has 2 hoses into it,then this is the drain pump and yes you can replace it for about $25.00,remove power, then 2 hoses from pump, then there are 2 clips one on top and the other on the bottom, remove these and the pump will slide off the motor shaft towards you,if its rusted on the motor shaft you may need to pry it off carefully so as not to damage the motor

I have a Roper RTW4340SQ0 washer that leaks profusely when it fills and throughout the washing cycles. I've checked the water valve and all the hoses associated with it as well as the pump and all the...

This model is direct drive with a front mounted drain pump. The drain pump is THE most common leak location on these type washers! The pumps do NOT generally leak at the hoses, but from the impeller side between the pump and motor. There will be a telltale water mark on motor side of the pump shell. It can easily be fixed by popping the 2 retaining clips, removing the two drain hoses, and pulling off the old plastic pump, replacing it in the reverse order after cleaning the end of the motor shaft. Pumps run about 30 dollars. If you are sure this isn't the culprit, check for signs of leakage between the tub center and transmission, there is a tub gasket there. The tub itself, is not likey to leak, it is one piece with heat welded seams.Go to Youtube and search Whirlpool washing machine repairs, there are a number of instructional videos that show you exactly how to repair these machines and save yourself a lot of money. Incidentally Roper is built by Whirlpool, that's why I said search with that name.

Hope this sheds some light on the problem

My whirlpool ultimate care 2 washer was leaking underneath while running, I removed the back panel and dropped the drain hose to the floor and extended it out the door to the yard and while filling the tub...

The drain hose must be at least level with the top of the actual tub in the washer. The water pump is only bad if it is leaking. If it is leaking from the front you either have a cracked outer tub, but it sounds like your water pump, easy to change out just get the model # and order it through an appliance parts distributor. The cost is about 40 to 50 bucks. good luck!

Leaking where the motor drive and plastic pump join together.

Hi just read your posting.I have had this same problem at a customers house last week. Now the reason the pump doesn't come off is because the motor shaft that turns the pump is corroded, therefore it is jamming the pump on.The only way to get it off is to tap it off with a hammer.Once the pump is removed, clean the motor shaft with sandpaper and refit a new pump.Unfortunately you cant replace the seal on the pump because it is a molded unit.Hope this helps and please reply for further help if needed.

Water runs out of the bottom of the washer as rinse water runs in. Washer if top loading Whilrpool. Model #WTW5840SWO

Check the pump assembly ( this is a common pump ) first for a leaking problem, check fill valve, hoses, and center seal under the outer tank in the middle where the transmission goes inside the washer. The button catcher ( on older style washer ) on the side of the outer tank is also bad for leaking. See #'s 16, 17, 18 for the button catcher, grommet and clamp. Replace them all at the same time, the grommet is glued as well as clipped into the outer tank. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Changing a pump tips: This pump is pressed onto the motor shaft. The motor shaft often starts to rust and the shaft swells out and holds onto the pump...tightly!! Often need to...remove power, remove the pump clips, remove the hoses from the pump assy. if the pump assy will not lift off of the motor shaft, you may need to remove the motor & pump together and break off the pump assy. A hammer and flat screwdriver can usually crack the old pump so it can be replaced. Sand/clean the motor shaft before installing the new pump.

Washing machine Whirlpool Lsn1000pq1

My washer is doing the same thing. I put it up on blocks so I could see where it was leaking from. On mine it was leaking from the pump which a big white piece of plastic in front of the motor. The pump has two hoses connected to it the **** the water out of the tub and pump it out the drain hose. Disconnect the two hose clamps, remove the hoses (use force). There are two spring clips on top and one bottom. I laid mine on it's side to remove them. There two slots one top, one bottom for you to use when prying the clips off. Place screwdriver under clip and between grove and push/pull until they come off. Carry pump to the sink, fill with water and see if it leaks from somewhere, should be obvious.
