Ice makers are pretty generic. Let's start with the water supply. You are positively getting water to the water valve in the back of the refrigerator? You can check this by disconnecting the copper or vinyl line on the water valve located at the back if the machine. If , you are getting water through this line, then, reach into the icemaker mold to see , if, there is ice or water in the mold. If, there is no water or ice, you have a defective water valve. Checking the water valve is easy, but, not for the faint of heart. Disconnect the leads to the water valve and apply 120 Volts to the water valve, if, the water valve doesn't activate the valve is shot. Sometimes a leaky water valve will cause the fill tube for the ice maker to freeze shut. You can check this by manually, with a flashlight by looking into the tube that supplies the water to the icemaker, if, it is frozen solid, the water valve is in need of replacement. If the aforementioned things are not the problem, get a new ice maker.

No water coming from water line to refrigator

There is a water solenoid at the water inlet in the back of the refrigerator that is operated by the ice maker unit. It is separate from the water dispenser. Make sure the wires at the ice maker are fully seated and not pinched at the door hinge. If the wiring looks good, then the solenoid needs to be replaced.

Does not make ice

Either the ice maker is not calling for water or the ice maker water valve is not working, there are many different types of water valves so its very dificult to tell you what to do without a model number or picture of the valve, but generaly speaking if you VERY CAREFULLY put 120V to a water valve it should open and alow water to flow, you can try this for the valve that has a water line going to the ice maker and see if it lets water go to the ice maker, sometimes there are two valves that must open, one main valve and then another for either the water dispensor or the ice maker. a better first test might be to test the water valve for resistance across the coil and compair it to another coil and see if its close-ish. also you can test some ice makers and see if they are putting 120V to the water valve by bypassing the bimetal and causing the ice maker to go into a cycle, but again a model number is required to know what kind of ice maker you have., even a picture would help

The ice maker in my Whirlpool Gold refrigerator has stopped making ice. There is ice in the tray, but it won't empty itself.

If the " tray " you are refering to , is the ice maker mold , then clean the coils in the front , under the refrig ( condensor coils ) . Also check the fan behind the refrig , to make sure it is working . An ice maker has to be 5 degrees to cycle . Bothe the coils and the fan , have to be checked to be sure the freezer is at the correct temp for the ice maker to opperate properly . If both are ok , then replace the ice maker .

Check the following suggestions from repairclinic:

The ice maker has a problem The ice maker is a separate appliance within the freezer section. Please see the How things Work section of our website to learn about the normal functioning of ice makers. Some common problems with ice makers are:

The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice
The ice maker is producing ice poorly
The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

Ice maker pump

that sounds like a company thats not willing to back there work if you ask me. Im to assume that there ws no ice before replacing the ice maker correct. and if thats the case , then perhaps the water valve was bad all along and you didnt need a ice maker.
