Delete a folder

  1. On the Go menu, click Folder List.
  2. In the Folder List, in the Navigation Pane, right-click the folder you want to delete.
  3. On the shortcut menu, click Delete folder name.
Notes
  • The default Personal Folders file (.pst), which is set as the default folder for receiving new messages, cannot be deleted. If you have duplicate Personal Folders, you can remove the duplicate folders from the Folder List. Removing the duplicate folder doesn't delete the data file, which remains on your computer's hard disk.
  • When you delete a Search Folder, only the folder is deleted. Search Folders are virtual folders that contain views of all Items meeting certain search criteria. The items shown in the deleted Search Folder remain in their original folders.

Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express Maintenance.

If you are often facing the problem of slowness in Outlook or Outlook Express then the total mails may be on the higher side or the mail file size would have been increased. If that is the case please follow the following steps.
1. If the mails have exceeded more than 1500 mails then create sub-folders in inbox and move the mails into that folder (Note: Classify the folders according to the company or persons or type of transaction or Month wise and move the mails into that particular folder accordingly)
2. Delete unnecessary mails or outdated mails by frequently checking it. Even remove it from the "Deleted Mails" folder.
3. Before continuing the following steps try to backup or export mails and keep a copy of your mails.
4. Compact the folders, so that the space occupied by the email file size gets reduced (Note: Even after deleting the emails, the file size remains the same, only after compacting the deleted space will get cleared at the time of compact and the file size gets reduced.)

(Note: Before doing the above steps be careful of taking the Backup on another drive)

Deleting outlook express messages from in box

Hi! Follow these steps to get the information:
1. Re-create your mail folder hierarchy by dragging folders into place in the Folder list. Note that any folder you have created to group sub-folders but that does not itself contain messages will not appear in the Folder list and so must be created again.
2. Re-download the list of newsgroups from each news account.
3. Reset your subscribed newsgroups and download messages again.
4. Reset synchronization options on IMAP and newsgroup folders.
5. Edit any message rule that moves or copies messages to folders other than the Inbox.

I can't delete inbox messages in Outlook express. and it's locked up

If you cannot delete email in Outlook Express and the program crashes frequently the problem might be because of corrupt storage folders - typically, the Inbox and the Deleted Items. As you may know, the email program uses the Inbox to store all incoming email, Sent Items for the messages you have sent and Delete Items for the messages that have been discarded. Now if you cannot delete an email in Outlook Express the cause of your troubles might be faultly or corrupt Inbox or Delete Items folders.
Fixing these two folders is not difficult and for that we need to find out where these folders reside on the hard disk. In the Outlook Express program, go to "Tools" -> "Options" and move to the "Maintenance" tab. You'll find a "Store Folder..." button; click on it. This brings up a small window with the path to the storage folders directory. Use the left mouse button and click to select the entire path. Now right-click and choose the "Copy" option. Close the Outlook Express program.
Open the "Run" program from the "Start" menu and paste the full path (CONTROL-V or right-click -> Paste). The Outlook Express storage folders are hidden files. You may need to force Windows to show them. From the top menu, select "Tools" -> "Folder Options" and then from the "View" tab, check "Show Hidden Files and Folders". Now simply select the Deleted Items.dbx file and send it to the recycle bin. Don't worry; Outlook Express will create a new one when you start it again.
If you still cannot delete the email after manually removing the Deleted Items.dbx file, I suggest you do the same for the inbox storage folder. However, deleting that will also remove all of your store email messages. So first select and drag all the messages in a temporary folder (create on the Desktop); you can then drag them back to the inbox when you open Outlook Express again and it creates the inbox afresh.
