Audio protect keeps turning off my receiver (sony STR-DE597)

My owner's manual says that the "protect" comes on when there is an irregular current coming from the speakers. i've checked all the speaker wire and disconnected the speakers from my receiver and the audio protect still keeps coming on. i then reset the memory and that didn't work so i called sony help. they told me that i should unplug the receiver for 30 minutes and to take it to nearby dealer if that doesn't fix the problem.

is there anyway i can fix this problem without having to waste money on a dealer?

That is the common symptom of the defected STK-IC in power amp.section that busted already or just a loose connection.First try to resolder the pins of STK-IC and also all component parts joint in power amplifier section if its works! if not that is the time you replace it, so it works normal again.

Hope it may helps you...

Can I connect a active subwoofer to my SONY STR-DE597 Powerful 6.1 channel AV Receiver

Yes, it only supports an Active Subwoofer. That's what the Sub Pre-Out is for.

Your sub will take that input, possibly split to two RCA connectors, and its internal amplifier will do the rest. Its own manual will give the specifics.

The sound on the 2 front speakers and the sub woofer on my Sony STR-DE597 turned off and I can't figure out to turn them back on. I've lost my manuel. When I use the test tone on the remote, only the rear...

First, you can find your manual here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDE597

You may have accidentally pressed the speaker select button and disabled speaker A (main) and enabled Speaker B or disabled both A and B. Start with page 40 in the manual to select Speaker A.

On the remote, press the "Speakers" button (Off/A/B/A+B) repeatedly until you hear some noise.

Flushing "PROTECT" on the screen of a SONY STR DG 910 Receiver

Try connecting one speaker at a time. The "protect" indicates a short or improper impedence (ohms) in one of the speaker lines. it may not be directly shorted, but I'll need to know what you have hooked up for speakers. Also, do you have any electronic meters?
