Can I connect a active subwoofer to my SONY STR-DE597 Powerful 6.1 channel AV Receiver

  • Anonymous Feb 07, 2010

Thanks for your answer. Please take me through it step by step. On my receiver should I plug one cable into my receiver and then the two split cables should go where on my active sub?

Yes, it only supports an Active Subwoofer. That's what the Sub Pre-Out is for.

Your sub will take that input, possibly split to two RCA connectors, and its internal amplifier will do the rest. Its own manual will give the specifics.

    Yes.

Specifics depend on the subwoofer. If it has a single RCA input, use one cable, otherwise split the single cable to join to both its inputs.

If you don't have the manual for your receiver, there's a Quick Start guide available on retrevo.com that shows the connections.

I have a Sony STR-DE597 FM/AM Receiver .It has audio out plug and i have a Jensen js650 100 watt Subwoofer. how can i hook them up. Thanks.

The reason you may find it difficult to connect the Sony Receiver to the Jensen JS650 is that the JS650 does not have a line level input (RCA) to match the RCA subwoofer output of the STR-DE597 receiver. In this case, all you need to do is connect an extra set of speaker wires from the "Speaker B" Left and Right speaker connections on the back of the Sony to the speaker input connectors on the Jensen. On the front panel of the Sony, select speakers A+B settings so that the subwoofer is on in parallel with the front speakers.

I hope this answer is helpful to your home system set up.

The Jensen JS650 does not accept line level input so you need to use the Front B speaker output from your Sony receiver and not the RCA subwoofer output. Even though your subwoofer is active, it does not support line level (RCA) signals.

Just connect the subwoofer as you would a pair of speakers. Once connected, you make sure the front panel speaker switch on the Sony is set to A+B so you get sound from your existing speakers (A) and subwoofer (B).

I hope that works for you.

Sony STR-DH510 Multi-channel AV receiver connected to cambridge soundworks ensemble IV w/ passive subwoofer: no sound from center channel during viewing, or during speaker level test- all other speakers...

The STR directs sound to the center as instructed by its speaker setup. You say the center does not work on calibration. Is it defined?

Prove another speaker does or does not work on the center output. Then we'll know if it's the receiver or the speaker ensemble that has the problem.

Have you checked the manual for this "
There is no sound, or only a very low-level sound is heard from the center/ surround. "?

Do you have a diagram for connecting components to the STR-DE597 Amp?

here's the link to the manual in pdf form:
http://www.filestube.com/bd599e16dd6d300403ea/go.html

would go over the connections but depends on what you are connecting and there are 7 pages of connections in the manual.

Cheers!

See Chapter 10 here:

for instructions on how to program the AUX setting on your remote and how to set your remote to adjust the receiver volume while controlling the Dish receiver.
