This TV set is still under the warranty and it seems proton has no local service available to you. I know its to late to tell you this but anytime you purchase a set, ask first and see if there is a service local to you. Ok enough of that noise.. I would go back to the store where it was purchaced and ask them if they know of any local shops that handle the warranty repairs.. If you want to pay for the repair, and that will most likly be alot for a flat panel set, You will have to call back proton and ask about the shipping cost and whos responsible for that.

It sounds like the entire screen goes blank with your problem. My problem is the lower half of the screen goes blank. Do you think the SSB is also the problem? What are your thoughts about the "Video Board" or the X Board?
Do you know where to purchase parts?

Hi, All.
I ordered a new power supply module on ebay. Cost about 106.00 delivered. Came in a few days. I replaced the unit, bunch of screws, all wires were cable plugins, no problems at all.
After reassembly, it worked. What can I say? Sometimes ya just get lucky.

One very common problem encountered on many Philips models, old and new, In some cases, the SSB board has to be replaced as the resistor on the PCB on the back of the CRT had to be fixed. In other cases the Y Sustain board had to be replaced. If the problem is not due to these two issues, then the capacitors will need to be replaced as they only have a fixed guaranteed life. Thus, it would be wise to take out an extended warranty on Philips due to this common repair issue which often occurs after the limited warranty has ended. Or you could just call your local repairman. There are lots of websites on how to fix it yourself on google. There could be many reasons. Hope this helps!
