If this is a gas range your problem is most likely your oven ignitor. As they get older they get weak and takes longer to open gas valve. Eventually it won't come on at all. Replacing the oven ignitor will often take care of problem. BE SURE TO UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE REPAIR!! Remove oven floor. The ignitor is in a cage attached to back of oven burner. It mounts with 2 screws. You may have to cut wires and wirenut in replacement. Doesn't matter if the 2 wires are reversed.
You need to check for 220 volts to element. If element never gets red hot it probably has only 110 volts to it. Check for a burned wire. Will possibly need a relay board. You need to check for 220 volts to element. If element never gets red hot it probably has only 110 volts to it. Check for a burned wire. The most common reason a gas oven won't heat is a bad igniter. It is located near the valve and burner under the oven bottom. You can usually see it glow orange just before the fire lights. Most GE ranges take a cylindrical igniter part #WB2X9154 or #WB13K21 rectangular igniter.
We may have found it - google Maytag Gas and Electric Range Service Manual (1997 models to present) and save it as a PDF to your desk top. Then print out the PDF pages # 18, 25 & 26, 52, 62 65 & 66. Those pages sound exactly like the problem we're having, which sounds identical to the problem you're having. We now suspect the issue is the gas valve heater coil and the volts it needs for ignition. Because without enough volts, the ignitor won't ignite (like, duh?). The specific PDF page is # 66 in reference to the Glow Bar Operation item # 4. If we're right, we'll need to get three small parts, totaling about $60 in all. Let's hope this is the solution!
