First know that they have a neutral safety switch which will stop the motor from spinning if the gear is engaged. so put it in neutral first.
Second- will it even go round? take the hood off and try to spin it by hand. Just to see if it is free. If it is stuck, check the lower unit oil for a lot of rust and water. That will stop it too.
Next - charge or change the battery,
Take the spark plugs out and see if there is any compression, or are there metal pieces found on the spark plug?
Then- or first- buy a book on your motor and a general book on boating.
Practice un-tying the boat and moving it off the trailer at home so you don't look like a novice at the ramp.
After 5 years the water pump should be serviced- use a garden hose and flush attachment or trash can full of water when running it at home- don't forget to put oil in the gas.
