Boat motor hi my 115 will start but wont stay running can anyone help me out

Hi Randy.
There is a number of things that could cause a motor not to run,
I'd start with fresh fuel / make sure that it has spark.
The three things that make any motor run ( spark fuel and compression.)

could be a cable and corrosion fault
best take it in for a warranty check if it is still under warranty or a service if not

remove and have the carburettor serviced as what that indicates is blockages in the main jets and circuits
could be corrosion from, or water in the fuel

1 and 3 obviously running off different carbs,sounds like problem in distributor,have you checked spark when cold

Replace it. They are just a simple contact switch . Go to the local auto parts store and pick one uo.

is it carbureted or fuel injected? are your warning horns working? if it iscarbureted then a few easy test can be done to find out. if its fuel injected then its a little harder but not impossible.(1) check compression. without the year model I'm giving you a average numbers. all cylinders need to be over 100 lbs and equal each other within 5 lbs.(2) check spark. use a spark gap tester all cylinders should jump a half inch gap. if you have good compression and good spark fuel is the problem nine times out of ten. clean fuel lines replace primer bulb and replace all fuel filters. Yamaha has a gravity filter under the engine coul. take it to the lake if no improvement. clean carbs. same test to be and fuel system service used of fuel injected engines. if no improvement in engine preformance then you will have to take it to a dealer to test with computer.

Your motor is fine. It needs to put out more than 12 volts or the battery will not charge. Most alternators put out between 13 - 17 volts, so this is well within the range.
