Try updating the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/)
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it
off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the
USB port, then update the firmware.

The only website that will have the Vista compatible software is the RCA website - I know the Pearl and other models are Vista-compat now, but I'm not 100% sure about the Lyra. Enter your model # into the RCA support site to find out.
If you have Windows XP you need to download Musicmatch Jukebox in order to transfer music. Google it. You will probably have to pay for it. However Musicmatch Jukebox does not work with Windows Vista. If you have Vista, you can use Windows Media Player to transfer music to your Lyra. The Media Player automatically comes with Windows Vista OS. Of course, you need to connect your Lyra to your computer using the proper USB cable, so your computer must have a USB port.
You may have let a magnet get near the mp3 player. Go to "My Computer" Then double click on the Mp3 player. You will see "Internal Storage" Icon. Right click it and click format. You will lose all data on the device. Also upgrading to 3.003 does not fix the Boot error problem.
What kind of system you are using? if its windows XP you shouldnt need a cd XP will recongise it. If its windows 98 you can download the drivers and firm at the rca site (link down a few lines) When RCA first came out with the Lyra series the only way to get music onto the device was by using musicmatch jukebox that would convert your mp3 file to mpy before downloading it to the device. But now RCA has come out with a new firm ware update for these mp3 players that improved the players playback quality plus enabled it to use .WMA files. so first go to RCA support http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/select.aspx?u=downloads and find your player and download the firmware and drivers (if needed) upgrade and install to your player its very easy and instructions are at the same site. You can now convert your music to .wma or use the free Real player that will convert mp3 to wma at the kbps that you request before loading it on. If your music is all ready in wmaformat you can use windows media player to send the files to your player. One last thing the .wma files that you put on your Lyra player need to be at least 128kbps or higher enhanced playback quality of wma files (160 kbps to 256 kbps).
