Picture was fadeing in and out, but now is completely gone. still has sound but no picture. Called a repair guy he new over the phone what the problem was and said is very common and would cost $400.00.
Would you know what the part is that caused this, so that I can replace it myself?
Sorry, I am not at home right now, and don't have the model number.
The bulb has blown.... if you get the bulb out and replace it yourself, you would still be looking at the same price range, bulbsa are expensive... i suggest let the repairguy do it but if you do try it yourself, there should be a panel at the back of the tv that opens where you can then proceed to replace the bulb

Although it's on it still could be the power supply. $130.00 USD. Its most likely the main logic board $75.00 USD. Either way it may be best to purchase a newer LCD TV compared to repair.
You have not mentioned the model/make of the TV. Please note that it is possible that when you depressed the button the remote would have selected sound mute. What could be done is to get the remote control serrviced at a reputed shop or many models of spare ones are available in electronic component shops from where based on your model the new remote can be purchased. If not try to use a universal remote according to the set up described. Try to open you remote clean the pads, solder any component that is loose inside and it might work. Hope you try. Good day
it is called colour fade.it can be seen in many old and few in new crt monitor.Due to the not properly fitting inner parts of board and other. it can be repair expert technician by soilding.. it is not softwere problem..--thanks
mine has just done the same thing, i had someone look at it and he said the picture had gone. its not worth repairing it as it cost more than the tv is worth. your better off buying a new tv.sorry.
It sounds like the backlight in he LCD display has gone bad in the phone. Most displays now have an integrated backlight, so the entire display will need to be replaced. Its not considered to be a user replaceable component. Unfortunately, you'll have to take it to be repaired. The fact that you said it was "fading" before it completely went black tells me that it was going bad and about to fail.
