Did you purchase this computer 2nd hand and did you see it operating before you bought it?

You need to get the BIOS password and the hard disk password from the person who you got the computer from.

1. Go into the BIOS configuration using the BIOS password. You can remove the BIOS password if you wish.
2. Go to the hard drive password setting and remove/disable the hard drive password. There isn't any need to set the hard drive password unless to want this protection.
3. Change the boot order so that the CD drive is the first boot device, after Windows has been installed you can change the boot order back if you wish, it does not matter.
4 Save the settings and exit
5. Boot up with the Windows installation CD.
6. Install any device drivers that Windows could not install.

If it has a hard drive password, you must remove it before you will be able to restore your OS.

I want to reformat my acer 4720oz please send me bootable disk

The Acer Aspire 4720 Notebook has a hidden partition containing files to restore the system to its factory default. On powering up, press the Alt key and the F10 key together (at the same time) repeatedly and after a minute or so, Acer eRecovery Management should start up. Follow the on-screen directions to do a restore of the system to its factory default. The restoration process will reformat the partition that is the C: drive. After restore has completed, Acer eRecovery Management can be used to create a set of disks for a full back up of your system's factory default image.

I need recovery cd download for acer aspire m1640

There aren't any restore disks because most Acer's have them built-into the hard drive.

Just press SHIFT + F10 when you start the computer.

That should put you into the Acer eRecovery Menu.

If that key combo doesn't work try:

F10
Alt + F10
Fn +F10
ctrl + F10

Let me know which one works, I always seem to forget.

Best of luck!

I need to do a fatory restore/reset on my acer aspire laptop because it has many problems. My son used it withot permission and now I can't even get desktop icons up without "ctrl alt del, new task,...

Hi Sue
Kids are great aren't they? The magic combo you are looking for is alt and f10 (thats the f10 key - not f, 1 and 0). You need to press down the alt key and f10 simultaneously while the ACER screen is up.

The manual for your laptop can be found at this link. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2505575/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-manual

The instructions for the recovery are located on page 25. There is also a notice there that disk to disk recovery must be enabled in the bios for it work. The instructions are there to verify if this is so. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
